extended skiing transition basic theory ski carving

This is just a quick overview of what an extended or extension to transition is as demonstrated in one of the race analysis by Marco Odermatt. This is one way to go from one turn to another but in my opinion it is not the most efficient way, but none the less I have had to demonstrate it many times for examination purposes.

Nice. I do like the fact that you are not dogmatic in your approach to transitions. I too think that extension does has its place in skiing.

I’m coming from RIGID Italian ski school, seems your transition and the phase when you lean down (sorry for my bad English) it’s very accentuated. I personally like soo much this style and school of skiing, it’s very flowy and stylish too see. Also love your indications about hips and foots distance, i hope to try soon on slopes this tips 🤞🏻👊🏻

Hey Reilly how about a little bit of both. Extend inside ski as you flex outside ski? Like a hybrid transition no one talks about it.
Also dont your legs feel more relaxed during ex transition? Less lactic acid accumulation?

Another great video, as always! I'm a big fan of your Projected Productions videos. I'd like to hear your opinion on "hip dumping" and whenever it's a bad or good thing for "performance" recreational skiers. Some instructors (PMTS?) seem to be strongly against it but I'd like to hear you on the subject. My wish is to increase my edges angles, but without developing bad habits in the process.

love the way this demonstration shows extreme angulation, edges are almost 90 degree, but is hard on the body ... can't wait for the next one, would love to see the current thinking on lateral transition ... do you think it possible to ever eliminate or reduce it so it almost not visible... the up and down? maybe just the feet up and down

This phrase is a little confusing "around the fall line in where the outside leg is extended and the inside leg flexed". I believe your definition of the "fall line" is where the skis are pointing downhill. However, i've mostly heard the term to mean the straightest line down the hill or the line through the middle of your S turns where you skis are pointing the most sideways.

Which ski should be the most weighted outside, inside?

Hello, could you please tell me what exactly are you wearing? I love the combination of yellow jacket and blue pants, but i just can't really find it anywhere. Thanks in advance for your answer. Keep it up! You're a big idol of mine! Greetings from Czech

Hi really nice Reilly😁 👍 I suppose it's black slopes for speed ...and what's you normal speed ? At least approximately. In video looks speed normal, but I'm thinking will be little bit faster as fast 😁😁🤣

"This is one way to go from one turn to another but in my opinion it is not the most efficient way, but none the less I have had do demonstrate it many times for examination purposes. " Yep.

ILE transitions never made much sense to me either, it always felt like the termination of a turn, rather than the transition of one turn to another as with OLF/compact transition. I also found it harder to get the big edge angles I needed around tight gates. To each their own I guess!

Nice video, and everything is fair and square. It’s just that keeping the outside leg ”at same lenght” ie. static has a bad ring to it.

Being an old-school skier myself, I always thought (and was taught) that you should constantly be extending or contracting, never static 👍

How about explain the advantages and disadvantages of this turn. When is a good time to use it? How to develop the technique? Basically that was just a series of photos with no explanation. Boo.

“...more efficient ways to transition...”. Efficient for what?
