There is a regional medical center and nursing homes, and so health care jobs. That's what I did when I lived there. There is The Ann Carlsen school, the college, many other schools for teaching jobs.

Oh my Ghod no! Where are you getting your info? It's west of Fargo not east. It's actually named after the James River which passes through it. UJ (formerly Jamestown College) is NOT a religious school. It's owned by the Presbyterian Synod, but they don't interfere with the curriculum. It's just a private, liberal arts school - and actually a pretty good "party" school. The population hasn't significantly gone up or down in the last 50 years. The major "industry" is the State Hospital, with the regional medical center, the Anne Carlson school and the University. Franklin School is now actually where the local cable TV business is located. And then, you missed everything that makes Jamestown special and unique: the University, the Buffalo and Frontier Village, the dam and the reservoir, the Anne Carlson Center, old Ft. Seward, the Methodist Church with the swastikas in the floor of the entryway (really). I know you're not from there, but you could have asked some locals. I hope to get back there once more in my lifetime; I guess I'll need to bring a handicam along!

If you feel the need to live in Alabama, there's only one region I would recommend: the Huntsville M.S.A.. Maybe when you get back to Alabama you could do a series of videos about the Huntsville metro region.
