I love Redux. I love spending all that time getting into that surreal space. I even love breaking it up and watching it over a week. It’s an odyssey.

Essential viewing. The French Plantation segment is vital, for complete context if nothing else. Imagine all those actors who soon realized it would be decades before it would be released, if at all. Some of whom wouldn’t live that long.

Redux was the first cut of the film that I saw. The theatrical has never felt complete to me, seeing as how Redux was my first introduction to this incredible film.

I wish I saw this before. The redux feels like an eternity long. I have yet to see the original. Maybe I’ll give it a chance in the future

I prefer the redux version yet I did see the original when it was released in Australia.

Yep! Well put…

I saw Redux upon release, having seen the original at age 8 upon release with my Vietnamese uncle.

At the Redux viewing I arrived early and the credits to the previous show was still rolling, and every person in the theater, all of them Vietnam vet age, and all by themselves, they were all standing just watching the credits, having just had their minds blown (again!), and I gleefully jumped into a seat knowing I was in for a treat!

LOVE Apocalypse Now!
Believe it or not, it was one of the first VHS rental movies available at a time when the VHS home movie player cost about $600!
So, very few families could afford one (1980), I was 17.
It cost $10 to rent, and an adult with drivers license was required to sign agreement!

Me and four friends each pitched-in $2, for an awesome movie night/ sleepover

Would you like a follow up video where I talk about the Final Cut?

I disagree. I've just seen Apocalypse Now for the first time today (the Redux cut). I'm glad it's the version I chose: it's amazing.

Interesting, mentioning the cut scenes interrupt the flow / momentum. Duly noted. Thanks! 👍🏼

I think the Final Cut version is vastly superior to the Redux version, but the original cut remained supreme.

Never get out of the boat. Absolutely-Goddamn-Right . . . Unless you’re going all the way.

Hmmm i see those scenes defo killed the pace but the lore from the french plantation owners was a interesting perspective

I agree with this. I watched the redux first and found it too long and challenging. Having watched the original I enjoyed that more and then I appreciated the redux more.

The problem is that the Redux version is the only one streaming in America, the only way to view any other cut is to buy the disc, thanks for the info.

I think I'm the only fan of the French plantation segment. It's a bizarre indulgence in more ways than one. I tend to just sit back and go for the surreal boat ride that Apocalypse Now is, in any version. I haven't seen the Final Cut, so I'd be interested to hear what your thoughts are.

The further up the river, the more insane it gets. These are important parts. Just to get to the final boss... Kilgore.

Has anyone considered stopping the film and watching hit ii in parts? 2 or possibly 3 parts. This isn’t signing a mortgage here man, it’s watching a classic film.
