Wednesday will be cooler and humid as we prepare for a fall front to move through. As you head out the door, temperatures will be in the 70s. There's a small chance for rain, so you may want to grab an umbrella on your way out. Wednesday will be our transition day. As the cold front continues across the state, showers and thunderstorms will be possible into the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to be cooler throughout the day, and a wide range of highs will be possible. Highs could stay in the upper 70s to the northwest, but temperatures could reach the upper 80s in the Triangle and areas to the south and east. Once those storms pass, we should start seeing cooler temperatures for the end of the week. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be cooler and significantly less humid. Friday will be the best day to enjoy the outdoors, with a high of 79 degrees.

"The high school football games will be a bit cool, but the college games on Saturday will still be amazing," said WRAL Meteorologist Mike Maze. There is a small chance for rain on Sunday, but otherwise the weather will be beautiful for the next few days. Temperatures will climb back into the mid to upper 80s by the end of the weekend and early next week. The work week and weekend will be mostly sunny and dry. It should be a great time to get outside and enjoy the fall-like weather. Fall officially begins on Sept. 23.
