The trick to finding the nth term for quadratic (and linear) sequences
Make grade 8 maths easy and accessible, essential maths revision
For linear sequences
a is always the common difference
a+b always add to the first term
For quadratic sequences:
This shows how a is always half the 2nd difference
3a+b is always the first 1st difference
a+b+c is always the first term

Nice. Would be good to explain where these ‘tricks’ come from. Too many students I teach have been given tricks but no understanding of why.
