This was the RAF which I joined in 1970 on the University Cadetship Scheme and was proud to serve in as a Hunter, Harrier and Tornado pilot until 1989. I look at it today and it makes me weep. Thanks for the memories.

Very painful to see the decline of the RAF, actually of the whole British armed forces and the UK.
Change is needed!

Fantastic. I don't know where you keep finding these - but please keep doing posting more videos - they take me right back to being 14 and highlight a golden era!

Some great Lightning footage. Nice calm narration with none of the stupid overtly patriotic crap you get nowadays. This is what made England: calm, reasonable, reserved people.

I joined in 1966 as an apprentice at RAF Halton, served in both RAF Valley and RAF akrotiri, This was a great memory of the RAF at its best.

I appear in this video and the Air Traffic footage from Cyprus was taken in 1972. I use some of this video to illustrate the talks I give to local clubs...and raising funds for Combat Stress.

Wow, what a wonderful Airforce we had back then. I regularly visited Valley in the late sixties and there weren’t many visiting types you didn’t see if you were there on the right day ❤️

When we still had an air force in this country worth calling an airforce. There's even talk now in government circles of removing the funding from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), and when the aircraft reach the end of their serviceable life, The Red Arrows.

If I’m not mistaken it is the voice of the great Anthony Quayle narrating .States that’s RAF action from 1969 - but definitely has later footage of early 1970s as dictated by the aircraft flown and especially the road vehicles - Land Rover 109 series 3 showing an appearance 😉production started in 1972 .

I now sit here as an OAP with my memories of all the aircraft that I worked on from 1975 to 2004. I feel sad for the youngsters who will never experience what we did with a military career and a couple of tours in Germany (Jaguars and Harrier GR3s). Those days are now only in the heads of veterans.

Thank you Joe for posting this video which brought me beautiful memories of when I was a young boy watching the Nimrods, Canberra's, Vulcans, Phantoms and Lighting from the rooftop of our house in lower Paola or by the road at Hal Farrug. Grazzi! ✈😀👍

Back when we had a British designed, British made air force. Our politicians have destroyed our country! 😢

This was a great video - thanks for putting it up. I loved the RAF video you had a few years ago called ‘The Favourites’. It was removed and I thought it might be for copyright reasons so I purchased the CD. I look forward to your videos -keep up the good work!

My old man was an electrical/electronics guy who started on the flight line on Canberras in the 50s and saw a good bit of the world, before finishing as a Chief Tech on Lightning simulators at Coltishall after 22 years. (RIP)
I did 12 years on ground radar and Bloodhound missiles 70s - 80s which was interesting, but I never quite took to it the way he did...
Good nostalgia here! I definitely remember air shows as a kid with Lightnings and Vulcans, they were always a huge buzz for the crowd!
