Hallmark movies are more popular around Christmas time and they all tend to follow a similar theme. Why is this theme so attractive to people- especially young and middle-age women?

"It's a Wonderful Life" has been our family favorite for four generations. It's clearly the best.

I agree with some of the points you bring up about Hallmark films, but there are also some more negative aspects you've missed. The vast majority seem to involve women in their late 20s or early 30s who have done the whole big city "career" thing and then return to find the man of their dreams in some small town. The problem with that is that it perpetuates the notion that women can have everything without sacrificing anything. It's a fantasy that encourages them to think that there will always be a great man waiting in the wings later in life. In reality, it's not true that you can put career over marriage and family and then return to them whenever you "feel" the desire. While these movies tend to reveal their characters as not satisfied with prioritizing a career and city life, they always end up happily ever after anyway. I think that downplays the real life consequences of some of our modern lifestyle choices and how they are impacting relationships between men and women.

I watch because they’re clean, easy to watch, whether I’m working and having that video in the background, or just want to cozy up in the winter for a movie. They don’t let you take life too seriously, and you know the acting is going to be just okay. But I’m not watching it for a masterpiece - I’m watching to see some cute story. The end! :)

This would be perfect for TGC: Five Gospel Overtones of Hallmark Christmas Movies

Hallmark Christmas movies are popular because they present a pleasant, old-fashioned and uncomplicated world of romance. They're always very predictable but that's part of the appeal - you know exactly what you're going to get.

Hallmark does some decent alternative productions as well - they produced what is arguably the most accurate television adaptation of the novel Frankenstein some twenty years ago.

It's always enjoyable to watch beautiful sets, predictable story lines, traditional music, love, family, and sweet predictable endings. There is no violence, no car chases, no

If your engaged & realize that this other person isn't suitable for marriage that's one thing; But if someone tries to insinuate themselves in someone else's relationship (b/c some people think a person is fair game until they are married), I'm not keen on that.

Sadly, in modern Western societies many young people do not experience the modelling of healthy manhood and womanhood. The church must get back to being the Church to help provide this model.

It's the corny acting and comedy bee-bop music in Hallmark movies I can't handle. But there is one Hallmark-ish Christmas movie I LOVE. "Christmas with Holly." Holly is a little girl who is mute after the death of her mother. Her guardian becomes her single uncle, whose two single brothers think is not cut out for it and are worried for Holly. Still, he and Holly move into their house with them.

The heroine is dumped at the alter, in the city, and moves to the hero's small town to open a toy store. Que the meet-cute.

I love the progress of a dysfunctional family that doesn't understand each other, to a happy and very functional family that appreciates each other. The fact it's clean and never too heavy with the grief or arguments made my sister and I watch it any time of the year. EVERY other movie we'd consider had parts that were too emo. "Too dark, when ... happens. I just want something light, " we'd say, dismissing all others.

Christmas With Holly.

Last year I told my wife we would watch some Hallmark movies because women love them. We watched three. We couldn't take anymore. EVERY one had a side story line with a gay theme. They are beyond woke to me. Never again.

Wow, I am reading Hallmark has changed. There was a time we watched and recorded Hallmark movies. They were syrupy and idealistic, but clean and traditional. There was usually church attendance, mentions of God or prayer, and respect for traditional families and small town folks.
Apparently they are LGBTQ friendly now? Subscribers chose the channel to avoid the political preaching, debauchery, and destruction of culture. How tone deaf!

IMO, their appeal is very simple.

She gets a tall, handsome, rich Chad.
She gets a tall, handsome, rich Chad.
If she hit the wall, she still gets a tall, handsome, rich Chad.
If the wall hits her, she still gets a tall, handsome, rich Chad.
Her past bad decisions never get in the way of getting a tall, handsome, rich Chad.
There is never any significant competition to keep her from getting a tall, handsome, rich Chad.

Hallmark movies look like a subconscious reaction to feminism. After throwing away numerous opportunities for a satisfying life, the illusion of satisfaction is greatly desired.

It's interesting, every article I found decrying the "Whiteness" and lack of "diversity" in Hallmark Movies was written by a Jewish person.

Like E. Michael Jones noted that the horror genre was a result of the enlightenment and the horrors of sexual liberation. Likewise, Hallmark is the feminist reaction to finding out that their whole lives and thinking are lies, and wanting a man to rescue them from horror of the city and the meaningless career, a longing for domesticity, and if it were not for Disney cultural predominance, it to would be depicted as a horror, but instead it is depicted in the melodramatic Hallmark cheesiness.
