**Eat The Healthiest Mithai This Diwali**

When we talk about healthy food, we're essentially talking about its nutrients. However, almost 30-40% of every mithai is sugar, which according to you is probably unhealthy. Right? What will you do then? One way is to look at the nutrients in the remaining part. Let’s take the example of besan laddu to understand this better.

In a besan laddu, one part is sugar and the remaining part is gram flour and ghee, which are good ingredients. But even if you go by their nutrient content, the mithai will still end up giving you a good number of calories, just so you know, one 40 g laddu will give you 190 calories, and I don't even know if you'll stop at one.

Because with sweets, palatability (taste) mostly overpowers nutrition driving more consumption. So, no matter how healthy a mithai is, its quantity can still be unhealthy. That's why a healthy sweet is one where, first of all, you stop in time, 😉 and then choose sweets with more water content. The more water, the fewer calories, like in these 5 sweets (rasgulla, rasmalai, shrikhand, kheer, phirni, pongal), almost half of it content is water, so fewer calories (mithai sheet given below).
Calories in 100g of the following sweets -
Rasgulla - 205-210 kcal
Shrikhand - 220 kcal
Rasmalai - 230 kcal
Kheer/phirni - 230-240 kcal
Modak - 240-250 kcal
Pongal - 240-250 kcal

So, the takeaway is that a healthy sweet is one where, first, you eat in moderation, especially high-calorie sweets like Gulab Jamun, Peda, Ghevar, Besan ka laddu, soan papdi, kaju katli etc giving between 380-520 kcal per 100g quantity. And if you want to indulge a bit more, go for sweets with more water content.

Bottomline is, if you don’t go overboard with mithais, you’re good.
