1978 Firebird Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

My driver shit the bed yesterday as I was trying to leave work. I'd noticed the lock cylinder was feeling odd for a couple days before but thought nothing of it right up until it broke. Most of the videos you see on here deal with the other style cylinder, which has a screw locking it in place, but these are nearly as prevalent out in the world in the older GM cars and you won't know which style for sure until you get past the turn signal switch. I'm not covering disassembly to this point as those videos are everywhere. Good luck!

My car won't start or less I put a jumper wire from distributor to the battery new wires all through the whole car all the fuses are good could THIS be the problem thanks

I just picked up a 77 Esprit. The ignition switch was replaced, according to the records I received with the car. Today, it pulled out of the column !!! Where did you order your replacement from?

hey man i got a huge problem with my ignition mechanism, someone at my house didnt push the key all the way in and they reefed on the lock trying to turn it, now it does not turn,
when i lower the column down to the floor it works fine
upon investigation on the interwebs, i found that the rod going to the ignition switch is bent,
how do i get access to that rod going down the column? i have a 79, thanks

Where did you get that replacement cylinder that locks, just bought a 78 camaro and the whole cylinder comes out and it evens starts with out the key I. The ignition.

I have the same problem with new switch coming out. The car is a 1978 monte carlo . Amazon said it would fit my car. It fits but will slide out. Where did you buy your new switch ? Thanks
