The “Bill of Rights” has nothing to do with protecting the government from the people and everything to do with protect the people from the government. Thus, when the first amendment says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, …” it’s not protecting the government from the church. it’s protecting the church from the government.

The fact that the founders prohibited CONGRESS from establishing laws respecting a religion was primarily to silence the strife between various Christian denominations. It was NOT to expel all references to God from every facet of Government. If that were the case, then why did they reference God in the Declaration of Independence? The founders were NOT anti-God atheists! For the Federal Leviathan to tell a State courthouse that they cannot display the 10 commandments is a clear violation of the forgotten part of the first amendment, that Congress shall make no laws "Preventing the free exercise of religion"!

I’m Christian and I agree with a lot of things Charlie says, but this is absolutely ridiculous. The first amendment verbatim is:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

We ABSOLUTELY live in a country with separation of church and state. It’s clear as day, written in the constitution. You can’t cherry pick parts of the constitution and ignore others. We live in a free society, not a society where our religion is imposed on people. I say this as a Christian. And yeah, the founders were Christian too, but they believed as I do. I’m conservative in many ways, but I also hate that being Christian in 2024 means you HAVE TO subscribe to every single idea the Republican Party states. Jesus is my savior. Not Trump, not Charlie, not a particular party. I’d also encourage people to re-read Matthew 6:1

If the founders believed in mixing church with state, why is separation literally the first declarations in the Bill of Rights? Most the founders WERE Bible-believing Christians but that is precisely the reason separation was the most important clause. Because there were/are many different kinds of Christians that believe opposing things. The Christian Pilgrims came her to flee from religious persecution....by other Christians.
