If every state sponsors one or more sports like Odisha then it will improve greatly.

I am 29 and in last 12 years since passing 12th no one has ever asked me which is the highest mountain of southern plateau, no one asked me what you'll get if you mix 2 chemicals, on one asked me about the revolt of 1857. Sports should be part of our basic education and every student "MUST" choose between 2 sports available in the school. It should be a part of the grading system. Sports teaches us so many important life skills like working with a team, staying calm in tense situations, discipline in life. Colleges should send scouts to school competitions to recruit budding talent. This year the USA team had more than 75% athletes from college system. And the most important thing is that we have to remove the "Approach" system, the kid whose parents know the highest official will get selected. Also, I agree that we can perform better than china or USA because of our biodiversity. North easterns have build similar to Mangols so they can perform good in badminton, table tennis, weightlifting, football, Southern Indians are tall which is good trait in sports like volleyball, basketball and swimming, People from haryana and punjab and tall and muscular so they can perform better in wrestling, boxing. Also in Southern states there are traditional boat races and if they are trained properly they can easily participate and win medals in rowing sports. Also if every state sponser just 1 Olympic game then we can cover almost all 30 Olympic games.

1.We should target sports which need less infrastructure.Like wrestling we can won 5 to 6 gold medal by just improving sone sections.
2.japan won 13 gold medal in just 2 sports
3.china also won 16 gold medal in just 2 sports

My father was a captain of Odisha in year 1975. He was one of the student of Major Dhyan Chand. His selection to national team was removed because of corruption. He published in newspapers that few district in Odisha are doing extremely well. If we take all district together we can make a really good team. Sports is too costly in India !

The best thing would be if army should focus more on newly recruits and provide them more facilities in atheletics, swimming etc

You are right...I'm also National player in Rowing....but thier is no job security or income here...untill you win in any race... government says that they are giving job to sports personal....
But when????
When they got medal in any national/international/ Interuniversity matches...but who will support to that level...that is the main question....
Kitne din maa baap pe depend reh kar khelte rhe...
So I leave my sports and now preparing for competitive exam....
Because survival is always preferable than
Now the condition is like that..I have invested my 3-4 years in Sports...and even not qualified for sport quota...
If I have Invested this in studies...to koi job to hota haath me...

The harsh reality is : Our peoples supports the players after winning the medals. They didn't support them all the time. Government & Authorities spend so much money to the medalist not the athletes.
We have to support the athletes as like we supports our cricketers.
