Αδαμαντιος Κοραης στην Κιμωλο 25-03-13

Το πλοίο Αδαμάντιος Κοραής με πλοίαρχο τον cpt Ισίδωρο Λιγνό προσεγγίζει το λιμάνι της Κιμώλου ενώ στην περιοχή πνεουν άνεμοι εντάσεως 9 μποφόρ.
Το βίντεο τραβήχτηκε απο κάτοικο της Σίφνου που επέβαινε στο πλοίο και ήρθε στην κατοχή μου απο μέλος του πληρώματος.

Truly incredible dockers, the port, the sailors in this country. Situations that I see on video the people on islands and the crews of ships have them everyday mainly in winter and spring.
They put their duty to humanity above the law.
  If the kid had to go to hospital in Athens? If the man with the motorcycle had to go to his wife who was hospitalized in Athens?
If something went wrong, how repaid all this responsibility of the crew?
Respect for these remote and our sailors.

Once the cables are secured to the bollard, the ship maintains a small amount of forward thrust and the capstan to which the cables are secured, winds the ship into place and the push/pull of the two forces keeps it in place. Of course great skill to keep adjusting the forces for each wave.

1) There are thousands of ports like this in Greece and it doesn't make sense to build super expensive installations in every one of them. A mere sea wall wouldn't help with seas as rough as this.
2) It's not an easy decision to say "I won't dock" even in situations like this, since some remote islands wouldn't get necessary supplies until the next ferry arrives.
3) It's a very dangerous maneuver but given the circumstances and the skill involved, not so outlandish. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do sometimes.
4) We wish our economy would work like this. Successfully operating under extremely adverse conditions.

This was not a stupid Hollywood production with the so called professionals. I congratulate the "cameraman" for filming this amazing video and sharing it with us.! These boats are the lifeline to the remote islands.
