All three acted extremely well. The black lady also acted well, which made us feel sympathetic towards Sridevi who was just amazing.

She proves again and again and again that she is THE BEST. No one can touch her. She was and still is the No.1 actress of India. She is the most versatile actress EVER. In this scene you see the vulnerable and sensitive Shashi Godbole. Once Inside the scene she just leaves THE SRIDEVI all behind and act as that character. An ability that I have not seen in any other Indian actress. That's why both Meryl Streep and Sridevi are compared together.

I totally second that...funny thing is she didn't receive a single award for this performance in India...Bollywood awards r a joke!

What an actress 😭 omg my heart breaks watching this. Not because she passed..but because of how real her acting is...the emotion it brings up in you. You root for her within 2 seconds of watching her in this scene. I cant believe shes gone. What a loss. She makes me proud to be indian. Bollywood has lost its queen. RIP maam. No words.

The scene was beautifully acted. I held my breath the whole time watching this. When her voice trembles as she says " 'nice coffee", blood visibly drains out of her face and the cashier lady keeps gunning for her. Scarier than horror movie.

I was in tears when I watched this. It also made me angry. I am white but I have been bullied by fellow whites. It must be more horrendous when you are being ridiculed and abused just because you do not speak fluent English plus you are in a different country. What a wonderful actress she is. I have never seen her before. Cant believe she is 50. wow.

I had a similar experience at Singapore Broadway. I can speak English well, but the problem was, there was the dessert and beverage section at the same large stall. But they had different billing counters. I didn't notice that, and went to the beverage section, and tried placing my order. The moment the lady heard my order, she snapped at me, and started shouting "Why are you here? I don't know you why are you here?" I realized my mistake and asked her where the billing counter for dessert was. To which she blatantly replied "I don't know! " Not only that. The cashier at the nearby counter who could be my grandfather's age, started laughing. I said nothing and went away. I felt so hurt and humiliated. Somehow, humiliating experiences just stay with you, no matter how hard you try to forget.

This scene should be shown in Acting schools. Only less than 5 mins of her acting could have won Oscar if this were a Hollywood movie.

Sridevi can lift any role with ease and put life in even dead movies. What a splendid gift to all movie lovers. Sridevi is the best!!!

When she cried i cried. She shouldn't be treated like that just because the way she talk. Its part of her culture.

watching her crying makes me

the thing is, when a English-speaking person in other country facing this kind of situation, no body is going to blame him/her for not knowing the local language. the person might even complain "this country is not very international!"

Honestly, this "Café Scene" is the best cinematic scene I have witnessed ever in my entire life. Sridevi is toooo good. What a Legend!

This was very emotional for me to watch in theatre, as I could relate to this. I once had to visit Malaysia on office work and had a big cultural shock. Things are different in India.
I went to the cafeteria to eat. There first we need get all the items we need on the plate, then in the counter they check your plate and bill accordingly. Then you need to pay. I was a bit confused. I still remember people behind the counter laughing and whispering something. I really felt sad and embarrassed.
It costs 0$ to be nice. Please be nice to people.
