I would love to be a guest on your show to straighten things out with people who do not understand my motivation and means of writing those books many years before the Internet existed

I absolutely remember!! And, the countdown to the Free as a Bird was incredible! I remember my dad came in and said, "Hey, you need to watch this documentary on the Beatles." I recall thinking, "The Beatles? Yeah, I've heard some of their songs." But I when I watched the first night, that was it. I instantly became a Beatles fan for life. When the countdown started, I thought, "Jeez....this is a big deal." Then, when Free as a Bird played, I thought it was incredibly cool sounding. The Beatles Anthology started my love affair with the Beatles and it hasn't stopped to this day. What a source of pure joy they were!

I'm ready for a Beatles Anthology upgrade, and for Now and Then to take its rightful place on Anthology 3.

The Anthology is still easily the best documentary on the Beatles (apart from the Rutles!). The fans deserve an expanded rerelease in HD with now and then added

Nothing should be released until the Rubber Soul box set.
We had to sit through another release of the red and blue albums,
And then the Capitol album box set.
Now is definitely not the time to even think about an anthology reissue.
I would rather see every single Beatle album, including Please Please Me get the box treatment before that.

I really hope that Apple decides to move forward with upgrading the Anthology series for both the film and music. I especially hope that Free as A Bird and Real Love get upgrades as well. I love hearing about your memories of when the anthology came out in 1995 and going with your dad. Those memories will be with you forever. Thanks so much Matt! Take care!

It's obviously more important to deliver new versions of classic compilations such as the Red and the Blue albums than to focus on the original thirteen albums and their significance to music history. ANTHOLOGY, with its collection of faux, cobbled-together alternate takes surely merits closer examination than say, deluxe retrospectives dissecting the importance of classic albums such as A HARD DAY'S NIGHT and yes, RUBBER SOUL. It's my hope then, that in 2026 priority is given to new deluxe treatments of 1's and LET IT BE...NAKED before lavishing all the attention on 1965's HELP! or earlier albums like PLEASE PLEASE ME and WITH THE BEATLES -- albums made before anyone had even heard of the band! And let's not forget that REEL MUSIC has never had a remix, so that gotta be a priority before any attempt at a serious look at BEATLES FOR SALE is to be considered.

All I really want as a fan now is a Rubber Soul deluxe and an official Anthology release, whether it be on streaming or not.

It would be cool to get a single with the three "reunion" songs!

Looking back, I think the hoopla around Anthology (when I was a teenager) was when I went from just liking the Beatles to being a true fan wanting to listen to, read, or watch everything I could from/about them.

Anthology 1 should open up with the cleaned-up 2 Quarrymen tracks of the day John met Paul utilizing Peter Jackson's magic. It would be the perfect way to start the first Anthology predicated on Jackson being able to do his thing...

When Anthology came out it had felt like The Beatles had been broken up forever. Now, here we are thirty years later and I'm up for it.

I was 5 years old when the Anthologies came out, but by that point I was already a massive Beatles fan, I mean about as much of a fan as a 5 year old could be. It’s crazy to think that more time has passed between now and then (pun somewhat intended), than between then and the breakup of the band.

I'm always insulted when ANY Beatles project gets less than a 4K result.
Mere blu-ray is okay for any other band, but this is the BEATLES we're talking about!

Cheers Matt. I'm excited already and very jealous you have Pete Best's autograph. I visited the Casbah last year and was shown around by Roag Best Junior. Brilliant tour, thoroughly recommend it. Love your content. Phil.

I can sense you love The Beatles in this video. 😃 God bless your Dad. ❤ I had an amazing father also. Yes I remember the excitement of the Anthology TV show, book and CDs and looking forward to hopefully more great news regarding it all in the the coming months.

Ooh! This is exciting news! Gosh! I remember the Anthology-mania like it was yesterday! Growing up in the eighties, I loved listening to my dad's Beatles records and I watched The Compleat Beatles hundreds of times. In the days leading up to the premiere of The Beatles Anthology, I had just started my freshman year in college and I couldn't tell you the excitement that I had bubbling up. My anticipation was tremendous because here I got to experience Beatle history for the first time in my lifetime (I was a toddler when John died, so I wasn't aware of that tragedy until a couple of years later)! Some of my friends who weren't into them would ask why I was so giddy about it. For me, it was exciting to finally have a documentary told completely by The Beatles rather than watching those cheap old VHS tapes which were unauthorized 20 minute docs that you could find in the dollar bin at any department store at the time; finally, the whole truth told by the guys who lived it rather than inaccurate third hand accounts. That Thanksgiving week was incredible. I remember going to Musicland Records the day when Anthology 1 was released--drove straight there as soon as class was over. Now, they didn't give away posters on that day, they gave away Beatles phone cards, remember those? You could use the number on the card and use it instead of calling collect on a pay phone. Mine had the Abbey Road cover photo on it (used up all the money on it within a couple of weeks). But, think of it! New Beatles music! I felt spoiled because this was the first time that EMI and Apple had let us get a peak into their musical archives! If Live At The BBC had been the appetizer the previous year, the Anthology project was an absolute feast! I was not disappointed one bit. It was great watching all this Beatle footage I'd never seen before! It was so much fun listening to these newly discovered live recordings and studio outtakes and alternate mixes. This was even better than listening to the bootlegs because the sound quality was hundreds of times better, so much that it felt as if you were right there in the studio during these historical moments of creation! I'm so excited now even thinking about it, I'm gonna have to go grab my Beatles Anthology swag and watch it, listen to it and read it all again!

I was 14 when Free As A Bird and Anthology came out and I had been a Beatle maniac for about about 10 years at that point.
I got the whole wave of nostalgia from my Dad, Uncle, Godfather and Music Teacher at the time (All fellow Beatle obsessives) and I was able to go on a great roller coaster of excitement with my circle of Beatle friends all in our early teens and it was AMAZING!
Listening to the CDs, watching the tv series, buying the videos and the 5 years later getting the DVD box with the massive book.
Wow, just WOW!!
30 years on I now feel.... disappointment is the wrong word, but I feel like I've been there, bought the Anthology tshirt and it doesn't really fit anymore.
I haven't played my CDs in over 20 years, haven't picked up the book in several years and while I have gone back to the DVDs *Now And Then* 😉I still feel they are lacking key stories and key people simply weren't interviewed.
Will I buy the CDs again? No... But I will keep an open mind
Will I buy the book again? I'll have to see how much of it is new/unused material
Will I buy the DVDs again? Again it would depend on how much new/extra material is included - I spent over £100 the first time
I always hate to appear negative and I'm not being now, but I always have to be honest
What *would* be amazingly exciting is if we got several hours of "Threetle" footage done in the Get Back style. There is over 14 hours worth, which would perhaps be too much, but a few hours over a few episodes would be incredible.
Apologies for the essay and again I don't want to put a dampener on any possible Anthology blitz as *any* Beatle announcement is an exciting one and I hope it draws in masses of new fans.
So, over the next few months as we get more official news I will re-listen, re-watch and re-read and try to connect with 14 year old me who went crazy for it all back then.
Thanks Matt!!
✌🎸✌
