Honestly, this is one of those moments that demonstrates what makes Yusuke one of the most relatable anime protagonists. He's not itching with excitement, Yusuke is scared so shitless he can't even move. It really sells the absolute menace that is Toguro and just how much of an impossible uphill battle Yusuke has to overcome before he can even pretend he might stand a chance of coming out the other end alive.

That read comes off as so frightening to me. Almost like Toguro is surprised that Yusuke is shaking in fear. Toguro knows that Yusuke is literally a helpless child, but so happens to have the potential to be a worthy opponent.

This is one of the coldest stunt sessions in anime, and set the perfect pace for everything at stake. It's literally Toguro showing him "Bro, do you know what I could REALLY do to you right now?"

Just imagine how terrifying that must be. You've fought so many powerful enemies and developed such confidence and skill. They were all powerful in their own right and all of them tested you to the limit but you grew from each encounter. Then your last opponent shows up unexpectedly, goes "lol I was just sandbagging, check this out" and complete shatters all your preconceived notions of "strong"

Yusuke was shitting himself and rightfully so. It's not easy to accept a statement like that so readily, but that's why Toguro had to put up a show to really force Yusuke to accept it.

I love how this played out. Toguro showed his power by breaking shit, and keeping Yusuke safe from serious harm, basically showing he was in full control over the entire situation they were in. Thats why he's a great villain

For all of Yusuke's tough talking, bluster and snide sarcastic comments, Toguro effortlessly saw right through all of that and exposed Yusuke for what he really was in that moment: a woefully inexperienced kid, scared out of his freakin' mind and in way the crap over his head.
