Former U.S. secretary of state Madeleine Albright is worried about the future of democracy in her own country. In her new book, Fascism: A Warning, she tracks the decline of democracy around the world. The CBC’s Wendy Mesley speaks with Albright about the forces behind authoritarianism in today’s world. Albright understands fascism well, she was a refugee herself whose family escaped Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia and settled in the U.S.

She's right about one thing...canadians are the best international citizens. Not that our current government gets it....but we did have a proven track record for fairness and upholding international law.

That's one of the reasons Trudeau won. We don't want to be the bad guy or to blindly follow the foreign policy of any other country. And if our friends get mad because we call them out for human rights abuses, so be it. We can make other friends. There is literally no resource we don't have. We don't need any other country enough to compromise our ideals. Lol if we can get along in Canada, there's no reason the rest of the world can't.
