I thought this video was over hyped until I bought it & played it…WOW! I’ve been using Grandeur…demoed vsl but they weren’t working for me. For me personally, the Modern D is a game changer. Thanks Chris for the video!

Also just bought this, I'm blown away. Once you hone in your controller curve settings it's unbelievable

Those treble melody notes that start at approx 2:22 unfortunately sound synthetic, a real acoustic wouldn’t sound anything like that, that’s a shame. The rest of modern D seems very good though, such as the bass notes, so not sure why they’d neglect the treble as much.

I Recently purchased this and I love it. I have a vast selection of vst programs on a Mac M2 studio and this is definitely my favourite.

Do you always use headphones for vst playing? As opposed to monitor speakers for example? I find headphones superior in that firstly no latency, and I’ve not found any speakers that come close to my audio technica m50s which I’ve had for years. Are yours the same as mine?

Recently purchased this, it being only my second VST (first being VSL’s CFX). However, as much as I love the CFX, I needed that “sound” of a Steinway, and imo, their Steinway doesn’t sound as genuine as VI Labs’. I understand that VSL’s is a Hamburg model and VI’s is a New York model, but all things aside, I prefer what VI Labs has done. Perhaps I just prefer the New York model sound? Idk

Still experimenting with the velocity settings, levels, etc., but I’m already extremely satisfied with the purchase.

Even though you only played the intro to Rachmaninov’s Prelude in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 3, No. 2, the realism demonstrated of a real Steinway was insane.

Awesome playing, keep up the great work!

Came for the review, stayed for the playing🔥🔥🔥👌.
Tip: You can use an external recorder or your phone to screen record your computer inorder to save on processor power.
I use an app called USB Camera Pro with a HDMI capture card connected to my phone.

I own the Ravenscroft 275, but I have never been able to use it. I couldn't eliminate an annoying delay when pressing the keys, and if played fast, the notes get cut off. Additionally, the tone is too bright and metallic (despite adjustments). It is installed on a laptop with an Intel i7-4712 and 16GB of RAM. I have never had any issues with Pianoteq or Native Instruments.

Thanks for the great video! Would you recommend Modern D if I already own some of the other competitors? I have Pianoteq 8 Pro with the Model D, B, U4. I also own Embertone Walker D, Spotlight Piano and Homestead from Fractured Sounds, CinePiano and Piano in Blue from CineSamples, and Hammersmith Pro from Soniccouture. Only reason I'm considering is because I have seen such an outrageously positive response for this piano across the web! Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I got my Ravesncroft275 license like 10 years ago once it was released. It was the first and only piano that feels pretty much close to real one in terms feedback it gives via hands ans ears to a player's brain. I bough nearly all the major piano sample libraries available such as Kawai, Garritan, Imperfect Samples, C. Bechstein, Production Grand, Soniccouture Hammersmith, TrueKeys Pianos etc. but none of them were good at being played live. Vilabs Modern U was a real step-down from Ravenscroft275. So I gave up buying them then. But this one I'll buy for sure.

I just bought this vst myself recently and It feels even better than Garritan when the controller settings are dialed in. Still need to find my personal mic mix but it still sounds so crisp and real compared to many of the top vsts I've played. I own Ravenscroft too though never liked the way it's bass heavy, this vst sounds alot more even and clear, plus the way the pedal works? Top notch. Una Corda and a blend of Hammer and Room mics? Has that wondeful sound to it

Nice demo. Would this work in my 7 year old laptop with i5 8th gen processor and 4GB RAM? Since there's no demo I thought I should ask around first. It sounds impressive which makes me interested.

Nice review. I am more in to playing acoustic pianos and I have played many different brands. I always looking for good piano vst which can produce the closest sound like a real piano. I played some of piano vsti including Keyscap. Keyscap is hyped, It dose not impress me. I like the Pianoteq but it doesn’t match the original character as per the mentioned name of the brand and model In fact all the pianos sounds very similar but it has the depth and very upfront sound. In Pianoteq I like only 2 sound pack ANT Petrof & C. Bechstien, Again it doesn’t really match with original sound. Best part about Pianoteq is they have the option of demo version. I have got impressed with the VI Labs new Steinway Morden D it’s very characteristic like real Model D and that is because of Sample technology. I wanted to buy but unfortunately they don’t have an any demo version. I spoke with the VI labs they said they don’t have demo facility but they advised me to send a audio file of my Music which they will pas through the VI labs sound which I don’t feel go option because it’s not cheap software. So basically I have two choice and now I am confused what to buy, Pianoteq or VI labs Morden D. I never prefer to buy the product without trying. Kindly advise me.
Thank you! ❤️

Rachmaninov 🎉 great playing, I love the low octaves part. This seems to be indeed the “holy grail” for me. I was in the fence for years with the Ravenscroft because I have always loved Steinway.
