Disclaimer: DO NOT TRESPASS ON RAILROAD PROPERTY!
This railroad may look abandoned, but it is not. It is out of service pending repair of a bridge further south on the line. Eventually, excursion trains will return to this area!

This is a short video exploring the Bridge over the Nehalem river and the Foss Rd. Crossing in Salmonberry along the former Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad. This portion of the rail line is NOT Abandoned, but OUT OF SERVICE due to damage to bridge further south on the line. This portion of the line is leased, operated and maintained by the Volunteers at the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad. This video is to showcase the current conditions of this location of the railroad in August 2020.

This is such a powerful video to me. The silence gives me such sadness as there will never be another locomotive through there again.

I rode the Crawler behind #25 to Salmonberry in 2015. It was a great trip. We did a photo runby in this spot. Sure has deteriorated alot since then.
Did it again in 2017, but only went to Mohler, assuming that was because of bridge issue.
Hope to be able to ride to Salmonberry again someday.

I kept hoping that *someday* trains will run again out to Banks. In November 2023, the weeds were cleared along the tracks parallel to US 26 near Banks, so I had a glimmer of hope. Those hopes died on December 13, 2023, when we drove along 26 again, and the ties and rails have now been yanked-up.

Awesome showcase of the area! As of right now though, how far north do regular excursion trains go?

I can see the tracks between Tillamook and Salmonberry remaining in place, with the future Salmonberry Trail paralleling the tracks, and trail only through the Salmonberry Canyon and down to the Tualatin Valley. I'm unsure though if there will be ample room for both in the Salmonberry Canyon, even between Salmonberry and Enright. One idea OCSR could have once the trail is opened, even partially, is retrofit their open-air baggage car with a row of bicycle racks so trail riders could load up their bikes in Wheeler and take the train up to the trailhead at Salmonberry. Trail riders coming from the east could then also get on at Salmonberry and rest their legs on the way to the coast.

Nice video! A few months ago I took some pics of the POTB Highway 26 overpass. Is the entire line being restored, and if it is, do you think freight traffic could resume service?

I love this! How far up the line do you think you can get (for the OCRR) before the rails/terrain simply become impassible and not-fixable?
