After more than 19 months apart, Music Director Riccardo Muti reunited with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in September for a triumphant celebration at Symphony Center to mark the start of the CSO’s 2021/22 season. Their program opened with a work by 18th-century Black composer Joseph Bologne, the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, whose flair for the dramatic in life and music alike can be heard in the overture to the opera L’Amant anonyme.

This program is much appreciated. Especially in Chicago, the heart of historical appreciation for black classical musicians. Waiting for Boston to take such a strong initiative as well!

It feels as though you gave us an exposition, repeated, and a development. Are you trying to say that in order to hear the recapitulation, we have to come to the concert!
