Robin and the 7 Hoods (1964) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #Robinandthe7Hoods

It's The Rat Pack with a very special VIP "plus one" in this sly Runyonesque musical revision of the Robin Hood legend, done up Chicago gangland style. Frank Sinatra stars as Robbo, caught up in a gang war with rival mobster Guy Gisborne (Peter Falk) after mob chieftain Big Jim (Edward G. Robinson, in an uncredited cameo) get the big rub-out. With allies Will (Sammy Davis, Jr,) and John (Dean Martin) at his side, Robbo gets suborned by Big Jim's daughter Marian (Barbara Rush) to ice the man that iced her dad to the tune of 50 Gs.

Directed By Gordon Douglas
Starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.

My father used to set up groups of Navy personnel to go to NBC when Dean had his show, we would hang out with Dean Martin everytime we went, Dean and my dad would speak in Italian, he was always nice to us, he was a really funny and a great guy, Deans doctor would sometimes tell him of a patient who needed an operation but the patient didn't have the money to pay for it, Dean would help by paying the hospital bill. But it was kept secret who payed for it, Sinatra was the same way, there will NEVER be another bunch of guys like the rat pack. Ever. Growing up Frank and Dean were my heros, and I still watch their movies today

I always love the rat pack. And this song. In particular. My mother when I was 29 was very sick. And the last words I told her. Was I love you ma and she said I love you Christopher.

Any man who loves his mother
Is man enough for me
Brightening her hours, sending her flowers
Though it's no anniversary

Many men want fame and fortune
It's gold they love to see
But I say a man who loves his mother
Is man enough for me

Many men loves dogs and kittens and pet them constantly
Show me a man who loves his mother
As much as she wants to be
And I'll show you a man who's a lot like me

In the legend, Little John meets Robin by beating him at quarterstaffs.
In the 20s, Little John meets Robin by beating him at pool.
Perfect translation, wouldn't you say?

I like to think that all of us have wanted to express sentiments like this about our Mothers - and I would also say our Fathers.

A real man loves his mother. Whether his mother loves her son back is immaterial.
