Does This Chinese Diesel Heater Change Camping Forever?

I think this diesel heater is one of my worst camping purchases to date. I've never wanted to return something before I even turned it on. We brought this camping with us and the smell in the tent from it was terrible. Not to mention it leaked fuel everywhere. Amazon did issue a full refund and I will see If the smell goes away. If so I will use part of the refund to replace the gas tank.

If you're still interested in purchasing a heater like this (maybe you'll have better luck), please use my link below. It will help me to continue doing reviews.

And some links to Wabasto Heaters, which are probably the way to go if you don't mind spending the cash. I don't know much about them but they are highly rated and loved by those who have them

Amazon did issue a refund without having to return the heater. My plan is to see if I can wipe down the combustion chamber and then burn off any smell. If that works I will replace the tank and update everyone with a new video this fall or winter.

I have the exact one and it works great. You have to let it run for 30 minutes when you first get it. The exhaust pipe should be pointed downwards. You shouldn’t be allowed around combustion engines. Have your wife’s boyfriend set it up next time.

Every combustion reaction results in H2O. If your exhaust is pointing up, your have a build up of water which may be part of your problem.

I love my diesel heater and even built the Chinese unit into a pelican case. Been running mine trouble free for two years. You need to run it overnight for the first time before using it. You just need some more time with the unit.

Did you run a tank through it first to get the new smells out of it. Coatings that burn off

When you expect a pound of gold for the price of an ounce. I have 4 of these and love them. I guess it all depends on the application you want these for.

Had same problem with cap. I'm using big external tank now. Smells go away. Overall money well spent but I appreciate your views

I just received my Maxspeedingrods heater. It is the short rectangular, more truly portable unit. I have not yet used it in my tent. However, I have ran it twice with no issues. No smell....granted, I probably have not run it long enough. The fuel cap on the Max is flawless. It tightens up nicely and they advertise that it does not leak. I took it out camping last weekend but ended up not needing it. It did not get cold enough. I transported it on the back floor of my p/u and had zero issues with leakage. Their unit also comes with an upgraded hard fuel line. I paid $84 for it on Amazon and feel very comfortable recommending it. Also, the LCD panel unclips from the unit and has 8 feet or so of cable so it can be placed inside. It also comes with a remote and can be controlled by Bluetooth with their app. Pretty sweet deal. I also have a Mr. Heater Big Buddy but propane has its issues. One, it is expensive to operate. I run mine off of a 12# bottle. I can't imagine feeding the beast 1# bottles. The worst issue with propane is water. Like a miracle, 1# of propane creates 1.6 lbs of water in your tent. In perspective that equates to over 2 1/2 cups of water.

If you have had a diesel spill from the poorly fitting cap, have you managed to get the insides completely clean of diesel? Any little bit trapped and gummed up could prolong the smell.

My Vevor Bluetooth 8k is working great in our Canadian winters, I use it 3 times a week in my tent in below -20c. It does have its little things like a leaky cap but that’s easy to fix, it smells when new for 2 hours and then completely free of any smell. It has no CO, I test it regularly with a low ppm tester, my Buddy heater puts out 14 ppm. They are a great little heater especially for the price. Maybe you should try another one before making a video, if you get on the forums and learn about them more you mind have a different outcome, also if you knew anything about them you would know the exhaust has to be on a downward angle not pointing up

From what ive heard personally, the muffler and upward exaust causes it to carbon up, however if you are running the unit at 100% i dont think the upward exaust is an issue due to it being hot enough to vaporize the water.

Once you fix the small issues they are well worth the hundred rather than 1k

Holy crap, what did you expect with your exhaust pointing to the sky?

As per your comment @5:22 on a $1200 Webasto off gassing and fuming when it is new I can confirm it is exactly the same. There is always a little bit of oil on the metal from the manufacturing processes that has to be burned off and yes it stinks. The fuel covers on these are not the highest quality but there are after market options. For $100 dollars vs $1200 dollars you have to take the good with the bad and upgrade and improve the short falling of a CDH. Hope you gave it chance and got to see the benefit of these little heaters.

Should have got a LF Bros diesel heater. They're truly built better than any other Chinese heater on the market.

My cap does the same thing, it sucks . I noticed it before I loaded it in the truck, and put a plastic bag on the the threads before screwing the cap on . I’m probably gonna swap the tank because of it.
