What causes black & brown skin lesions? - Dr. Rasya Dixit

One of the most common skin condition which are present in the face as black or brown are something which are called as freckles. It is usually quite common in fairer individuals. It might even occur in south Indians where one of our parents having a more fair skin type. It usually appears on the scalp, cheeks like a butterfly in distribution. The other common condition which also presents like this is melasma. Both freckles and melasma have summed as a very important factor in the production of the pigmentation. This is because the melanocytes on exposure to the sun gets super stimulated to produce more and more pigmentation. One thing that is causing it is heredity, second thing is sun and the third thing is any kind of oral contraceptive use or hormonal changes which might be occurring in the body. One of the things that we can avoid is sun exposure to prevent new pigmentation from developing and use a broad spectrum sunscreen. This will only prevent new ones from appearing. Old ones you might need to meet a dermatologist to take a skin lightening agent which is free of steroids and hydroquinones, therefore you can use it for long term and may be you can use some laser treatments to take of those spots.
