Painland saga is in full force this chapter.

Really tough chapter to read for many reasons. Ever since we first were introduced to Einar, and even in the anime original content in S2E1, he's been on the edge of a knife. Seeing him succumb to the worse angels of human nature and become less human in the process is tragic. This will definitely make me shed a tear in the anime many years from now, especially if Thorfinn and Einar have to confront each other and one of both of them dies before the end.

At this point, I wonder how much more there is left to tell in the story. If the Lnu stop their attack on Arnheid Village and Thorfinn returns in the next couple chapters, we could be entering the final year of Vinland Saga in 2025. I just hope Yukimura is given the proper time to finish his masterpiece on his own terms, regardless of how it may be received by us the readers.

I think when its all said and done, Vinland Arc will top Slave Arc as the greatest Vinland Saga arc

The ending of this chapter made me think of Olmar back in the Slave arc. Where after he killed that one man who insulted him, he clearly did not think he would feel the way that he did after everything was said and done. Like he just stares at the dead guy like "I can't believe I just did this to a person". And it's similar here with Einar. After it's over he just feels so awful with himself that he immediately tries to justify killing the Lnu. Killing a person changes you. The writing is so cyclical, it's fantastic.

Einar really didn't have a choice here. There isn't anything else he could've done, but run or fight. Not everyone has the outstanding ability to enter wars like thorfinn barehanded fighting off fighters such as Garm. Einar isn't a warrior, he cannot outrun them or outsmart them in combat. There are so many what ifs, but the grounded reality is that he was a cornered rat that got lucky he lived. Could he have gone for his legs? His arms? His hand? Maybe yeah, but that's irrelevant of the matter that his choices and realistic bodily response would be to protect himself and he would and did drop emotional sense for keeping his hands clean until after the situation, but rather keep his body free from harm.

I wonder if the "I had no choice" thing will become resentment towards thorfinn or renewed admiration. It's hard to say as everything just keep spiraling out of control. I also wonder what Yukimura is saving the distinct Lnu for, the one with the bear pelt and the big knife dude. Maybe Thorfinn's last fight. A lot is brewing and going at turtle speed for a "last stretch of the last arc". I think the end is going to be a lot more open ended than we previously thought it would be.

This id the pain of Vinland saga for me. The promise they made to Arneid and making a village in her name that will be made with love and no bloodshed has become the very thing I feared it would become. But knowing history I knew this was coming. It was always inevitable that violence would plague Vinland. Yukimura hitting us with the reality check sadly after all the hope and love he instilled that they would make Vinland a land of peace. It was so beautiful while it lasted🥺

The anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, pain, & fear of losing something dear that build up finally explode.

Dang! And I thought the author will write an alternative timeline where the vinland colony succeeds and thorfinn and einar finally builds a peaceful village. But regardless, props to him for staying true to the real events that happened. Hopefully he could at least make a satisfying ending despite where the story is going.

If Thorfinn chastises Einar instead of helping him through killing another man things are gonna change drastically. I can see Thorfinn growing and understanding extremism of both sides, or fully go into the extremism against violence. Either way I doubt Thorfinn will want to stay on Vinland and Einar now having a taste of blood might dig his boots further into the ground and defend his village. I'm imagining that many of the people will leave and many of them will stay. Thorfinn will stay with Einar and try to convince him to leave but Einar will keep his feet in the dirt.

This was so sad. He’s fallen victim to the easiest lie we often tell ourselves. That we have no choice, and so it wasn’t our fault. So tragic.
