Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., gave an opening statement on Dec. 19 as the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack presented its final findings to the public. She said that the committee has evidence that former President Donald Trump planned to declare victory in the 2020 election without any evidence he had won, and that he raised hundreds of millions of dollars online, part of which were used in what they say are concerning ways, like providing or offering employment to witnesses called to testify before the panel.
Lofgren said Trump also continued to repeat the “Big Lie” that the election was stolen with no evidence. “Trump knowingly and corruptly repeated election fraud lies, which incited his supporters to violence,” she said.
The Jan. 6 committee will release its full report later this week as the panel wraps up its work.
