The fact that people took the time to restore these giants means something....

My favorite German tank because my father drew me a picture of one. He remembered the shape because he fought against it.

I was there Sat and Sun 2019. I saw the Panther running. It sounded like it had an ignition problem, the popping heard in the video.
Having said this, it was STILL an awesome experience! Thank you FRENCH ARMY, The Tank Museum, and all those who brought their vehicles or contributed to making this event possible with funds or labor.

put me in the drivers hatch. I'll get some dust flying. maybe my favorite tank of all time. smokes a lot less with higher octane fuel. beautiful piece of machinery.

That commentary at the beginning is the trouble with Tankfest now; they have these silly "battle scenarios", with entirely unnecessary music played over the tannoy, rather than just letting you hear the tanks without interruption, which is what you want.

Beautiful, deadly and efficient machine! It also had the best anti-tank gun mounted on any tank during the war (my opinion, but fairly well supported). It was easy to steer, had a smooth suspension, had good mobility, had sufficient power, and had decent armor protection (especially on the front). As for the gun, it wasn't just about the high muzzle velocity and flat trajectory, this tank had excellent long-range optics, which allowed them to utilize the long-range capabilities of the gun. Definitely a machine that you didn't want to encounter face to face in an open field (if you even saw it before it took you out). I've always said that the Panther should have been the height of German tank innovation during the war. They should have simplified the design somewhat (made it cheaper and easier to maintenance) and learned how to mass produce this machine and use it almost exclusively as the main battle tank, while still producing large numbers of Stug III to serve in the infantry support and anti-personnel roles. Forget the Tiger and King Tiger, it should have been all about the Panther IMO. Not that it would have won them the war in the end without some other major changes in doctrine, but it would have been the smart thing to do.

Imagine being a rifle platoon and seeing this monster rolling down the street at you.

I can tell you now, your sub woofer, is not big enough to convey the pounding in your lungs from the pressurewaves as the combustion chambers ignite....
The Colossal Maybach engines really do rattle your chest to pieces.

According to my knowledge there are just 4 running Panthers in the world now. One in France, one in Germany, one in Russia (Kublinka Museum) and a restored vehicle owned by an American collector.

My grandfather touched that exact tank on the side 80 years ago.

Would it be too impractical to use the Panther G as my primary means of transportation? I mean, aside from the poor MPG...
