This is so true. My mom just recently passed down some lore about how my great uncle was mentally ill and tried to shoot his whole family with a shotgun in the 70's. They managed to talk him down and he was sent to a mental asylum before killing himself a few months later by throwing himself out of a train that was on a bridge over a lake near our house. My mother's father was also no better - a paranoid schizophrenic that tried to kill her on more than one occasion by throwing her down flights of stairs before my grandma jumped in and crashed a wine bottle over his nead, knocking him out cold.

My dad's father, a Polish immigrant and alchoholic that couldn't even speak to his own child (because he never learnt English, nor taught my dad Polish, and was also illiterate), regularly beat the crap out of my grandma and my dad knocked him through a wall on one particularly violent night when he was 18. My dad took the whole family with him and moved away, but ended up in an emotionally incestuous relationship with his mother that drove my own mother to divorce him not long after.

Oh buddy I feel ya there. My family is so nuts my grandma paid for electro shock therapy in the mid 2000’s. Meanwhile my father (who’s off his rocker) doesn’t believe in mental health 👀 then there’s me 😈 at least I’m aware tho
