Vaccine expert Rick Bright told lawmakers on May 14 that in order to successfully fight the coronavirus pandemic the country needs to “unleash the voices of the scientists.”
"We don't have a single point of leadership right now for this virus response, and we don't have a master plan for this response," Bright said.
Guidance from scientists “need to be listened to, and we need to be able to convey that information to the American public so they have the truth about the real risk and dire consequences of this virus,” Bright said. Bright testified on Thursday before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s health subcommittee in a hearing dedicated to “protecting scientific integrity” of the country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. In a whistleblower complaint filed last week, Bright said he was reassigned to a different position in late April for pushing back against the Trump administration’s virus response strategy.
