You're right. React is super weird and unintuitive unless you understand and appreciate the value, purpose, and detail of functional programming and immutability. I guess they considered it worth essentially ditching OOP and pushing this stuff on users because they *are* valuable and important paradigms/concepts in the web dev space, but yep, unintuitive. Maybe unnecessarily so. Good discussion video, thanks.

This made me feel so much better. I have stalled out learning web dev when getting to react hooks so many times and I just thought that perhaps I was not trying hard enough. In reality this is an example where people had a lack of sympathy and decided to build in walls around a technology when developing it. I'm going to try switching over to vue simply because I want to support good design.
