Proliferation of Open Source for Emerging Technologies

The open source industry has achieved the Silver Jubilee milestone, and soon it will be a domain with three decades of experience. The open source journey starts with a thought process of open technology with seed code to be opened to the community; that has a specific governance model and appropriate license to protect the interest of contributors and consumers. It has come a long way, and today, Open Source is progressively becoming a key element of the products. Collaborative Research and Development is a synonym of an Open Source industry, and the definition of Open Source has transitioned from Openness to Innovation Accelerator.

We are in the era of Industry 4.0. Where everything is Intelligent and Connected, Communication is the backbone of the current Industry. When the economics of scale come into an active role; collaboration becomes inevitable; with the interconnected ability and intelligence; it opens new avenues for vertical and horizontal opportunities in terms of breakthrough and convenient technologies. While legacy technologies have started adopting Open Source for growth, new technologies consider Open Source as the first stepping stone.

At this conference, jointly organized by IEEE Communications Society Bangalore and Samsung R&D Institute India, Industry leaders shared the journey that intersects 5G and Metaverse technologies in an Open Source way.
