How to support Maui’s faltering economy? These kamaaina are opting for a staycation

So the Maui islanders can deal with people coming to enjoy themselves / and of course we are nosy.

Asking if their families made it.

Dealing with how to answer when they lost a loved one.
As a tourist I couldn’t help but ask, are you ok, is your family safe? Are your friends safe and pray for peace with you😢
But as some online interviews seem upset with people swimming and laughing we thought you may not be ready .

I was not really great company for months .

My family love Maui but we have been checking resort prices. They are still high. Higher than taking a vacation to Mexico etc... Lower the prices and people will come. Resorts need to support Maui as well!

This is actually the best time to go. cheap car rentals, less people so the businesses will really appreciate that the kamaaina people who go to support them.

What kinds of businesses have been hardest hit?
Are there short-term volunteer needs?

Car rents and hotels should offer local discounts to go with the airline prices! Usually that’s the three that makes it a costly inter island trip that’s why they say it’s cheaper to vacation to mainland. I would like to stay in a great hotel at a local price that’s something locals would like

Yup we welcome visitors and their ohana with aloha to visit our many other parts of Maui other than Lahaina at the moment. Each side has their own unique flavor and vibe.

Perhaps the churches on the mainland can encourage people to do “Prayer Tourism” fly to Maui to do prayer vigils perhaps sunrise, noon, and sunset at beaches and other areas and to help support the economy by frequenting the local businesses.

whoa I thought Ka'ahumanu Mall closed down long time already 😅. We shouldve put a better cap on tourism a Long ass time ago. This is what happens when u dont. Now all these businesses hurt cause they Cater to tourist not real locals sadly thats how it is and Kama'aina prices aint that great. Locals cant afford expensive plate lunch every day or any of the fun activities the Haoles get to enjoy. What ever keep the machine rolling.

The rental cars SHOULD BE HELPING OUT THOSE who have been impacted by the fires!!! What’s going on??? All that these rental car companies have profited of of Maui SHOULD BE GIVING BACK.. if they focused on giving they wouldn’t be focused on thousands of cars being parked!!!!
