I live in Essex, and my first SLR was this very camera. I worked in Jessops in Basildon at the time. I loved it. Thanks for this Mike, I had totally forgotten about this camera. I moved on to the Minolta Dynax 5 then Dynax 7 after that. I still have them, one day I will take them out of storage and have another crack; truly underrated cameras for their time. I was and still am besotted with the Dynax 7. For now, just waiting for delivery of the Fujifilm X100v.

I recently got an eos500, gifted as a friends dad was going to bin it. These cameras are everywhere! No shame in letting the camera do some work, with the cost of film and development you want a good hit rate. I love the different experience of shooting on film, more considered, focused and quite relaxing.

I bought a 500n on eBay for a similar price earlier in the year and I love it, opened a new love for photography for me as my first film camera. Love the images!

Seems like I missed on a couple of video of yours that I gotta catch up on! Starting with this one though, I once again have to iterate that it's nice to see that you've found your groove, so to speak. You've changed your photography and methods since I first found you and if I may be so frank, it feels like you've fallen in love with photography all over again. It's wonderful to see! Hope you can continue down that road in 2023, Mike!

I’m watching from Canada but I’m from Benfleet - not too far away - spent a lot of time on Southend seafront growing up. Just picked up the same camera for $15 Canadian dollars, and then a 35-80 lens for another $15 from charity shops. About to put my first roll through.

Well done! If we can just convince young film shooters that old SLR’s are far more superior in terms of usability, performance and quality than any point and shoot or old film cameras.

I live near basildon ( someone has too )
Yes great video as always.
Was thinking of going old leigh tomorrow ( Christmas eve ) but i feel its going to be busy.
Went London yesterday but the light was awful and only got about 9 OK shots out of 60.
Will go again before I go back to work in the new-year.
I normally go on my own as mates work weekends etc.

I am glad you said that. I have an eos 300V and I like. I just bought it, done two films but I look forword whn the weather gets better to get out of it what is best. I am a beginner after 30 years when I just played with film cameras. I wanted to get back to film and I bought a lot of cameras in the last three months. Probably I will sell back what is not for me. I have as well Canon AV-1, Pentax me-super that broke after few shots, Nikon F65, Minolta Maxxum 7, Canon eos 50, and more.

I was especially surprised, how exact the light metering is on your night shots. Spot on on every picture. I bought the same camera recently ( called Kiss III here in Japan ) and after seeing your results, I am looking forward to use it ASAP.

Great stuff bud! Just bought a Rebel 2000 (pretty much same camera, US model). This and a 50mm 1.8 boom great combo.

£15 is a steal !!! But it was body only, right ? However, you can also get those end of the film era entry level SLRs for about $30USD here in Japan ( with kit lens ). I bought a Pentax, Nikon, Minolta and also a Canon EOS ( Kiss ) last year for about that price. Very capable cameras, totally overlooked by the community of film lovers, only hunting for antiques and compacts nowadays … which became totally overpriced recently. So, yeah, good choice, mate and nice pictures as well !!!

I picked one of these up recently, it is a happy fusion of shooting film with some modern comforts and being a canon shooter using all my modern lenses is quite handy! Recently teamed it up with my ef100-400 Lii. It looked ridiculous but gave some great results 👍🤣

Some great shots of my local area once again ! I have a similar camera, a Pentax MZ50 i bought back in the 90’s. I got some outrageously expensive film only to find out the camera does not work 😭 I have now got the Fujifilm XT30ii and use the film simulations instead. After watching this I’m gonna have to buy another 35mm camera 👍

Bought mine used. I probably should have gone for the Kiss V which has a metal lens mount, but my Kiss 3 gives me the confidence that it would hold up. I am more confident about it than my Pentax P30, my only other plastic SLR. I won't be taking it to extreme places, anyway. This model line was one of the last film cameras from Canon, so it has basically the latest AF.

Hi Mike. Film photography isn't my thing but I really enjoyed your video. Like all your work, it is well presented and edited and you are an engaging speaker. Great results with the shots too. Look forward to more of your work. Thank you.

More film! More film! Hi Mike. This was a very nice video which I really enjoyed. I'm a Nikon shooter, however, your comments about the EOS vs the AE-1 are kind of relatable (excluding the cost.) I have an F100 which is very similar to shooting a DSLR. I also have an FM which is more work and actually much more engaging. The F100 is easy and pretty safe to boot, but, the FM is just a pure joy to hold and operate. I'm currently shooting a roll of Portra 160 in my F100 and this video makes me want to remove it and load a roll of Cinestill 800T I have waiting to be used. I'm eager to see what you do next.

Really enjoyed your shots and the vibe. What is your workflow from film to screen?

You're right. I have a Canon EOS Rebel XSN and an AV-1. EOS is easier to use vs the AV-1 plus it has the upside of taking EF lenses (especially L lenses!). The AV-1 does feel and sound more bad ass when you release that shutter though. ✌️
