Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Can you hyperlink from Word to a specific sheet and cell in Excel?

Welcome back to another episode of the MrExcel netcast, where we explore all things Excel. In today's episode, we tackle a question from Selina about linking from Word to a specific sheet and cell in an Excel file. This is a feature that I had never tried before, but I'm happy to say that I have figured it out and I'm excited to share it with you.

Now, let's see this in action. By Ctrl+clicking on the hyperlink, we can open the Excel file and be taken directly to the specified sheet and cell. And if you want to avoid any annoying messages about untrusted locations, simply add the file's location to your trusted locations in Word's Trust Center settings.

Yes! If you are careful with the hyperlink format.
One way:
or, you can use a named range:

From the outtake: To prevent the annoying message, you can tell Word
that the folder containing the Excel file is a trusted location.
You have to exit Word and re-start for the message to go away.

To view the active cell/hyperlink on top left of screen you can go to File > Options > Advanced >Select the checkbox called "Transition navigation keys". Click on the OK button.

I have a question, if I wrote something in excel cells and I want specific word in the cell like for example “press here” to link to some other document, how to do that?

Would this work for excel files that are save in the cloud? I tried doing it but I can't make it work. I copied the URL, deleted everything that goes after the .xlsx, and then add the #'[Sheet Name]'![Cell #] format. Instead of going to the specific cell, it just goes to the last page I viewed.

Hi. It work great if i insert he link in word or excel. But don't works in microsoft onenote, opens the last cell active before save.
Is there another way to write the link to make it works?

i use Microsoft Word 2010.... seems like the trick didnt work.... is this trick can only be used for specific versuin of Microsoft Word?
