Unlike what many youtubers say, the Nikon Z lineup is packed with great cameras. Both the first gen and second gen Z6 and Z7 are fantastic. There will always be some features that one would want to have but didn't make it to the new model(s). That is just how it is. I believe a lot of people are way too reliant on technology these days. Just look at the old days when photographers didn't have all that nice tech inside their cameras. They still made stunning images. Technique is far more important than technology when it comes to creating art. Today we are so spoiled with technology and as a result often disappointed; this is a very strange trend. The same goes for the differences between the gen I and gen II Z cameras. Yes the Z6II and Z7II have updated and better technology inside. But a good photographer is capable of capturing the same stunning images with both cameras and there is not a soul on this planet who could tell which photograph is captured with what camera. People need to focus more on their art as apposed to the technology that goes into their tools. And last but not least, learn to master the current tools they have, because that will make a big difference.

You were right to get the Z6II. It’s an improvement . In the US the price difference is not much compared to your neck of the woods . I have the Z6II and a Z5 as a backup . Both are great cameras that punch above their weight . One has to remember that a lot of naysayers or doubters are going off SPECS alone which doesn’t always tell the whole story .

I jumped from D750 to Z6ii and I'm very happy

Supposedly there's a firmware update coming to the Z6ii once the Z9 comes out. Would be a good time to revisit the Z6ii camera's performance once that happens.

The fantastic Electronic Viewfinder made me buy this nice camera

Great video
I am only a low end shooter.
But decided to go Nikon FF.
Like you its a big decision between the Z5, Z6 and Z6ii.
Each one is a bit dearer, but in my mind I divided the price difference by 5 years and 250 weeks so its only a few dollars (krone) more per week.
In the end for me it came down to the two processors I feel that Nikon will give us more firmware updates like they just did to the Z6.

Nikon dealt with all the moaners complaints about the original Z6 after only 2 years, and as you say mk 2 is only slightly more expensive than the older, therefore reduced price Z6. You can still buy the original if you don't need all the improvements and put the difference towards lenses. By the way, have you a warranty for the camera you obtained, did you include all US taxes, custom/postal charges etc? I am still very happy with my official Z6 mk 1, three S lenses, FTZ plus my F mount 70-200 f2.8, but also glad Nikon have continued to significantly update the software. It is beautiful to use and appears very well built.

I was waiting on the Z9 specs to decide on the Z7ii or what may come in the "Z8" since IMO the original Z6-Z7 were beta versions and the "ii" versions were what should have been the initial releases. I had just about decided to dip my toe into the mirrorless world and was wondering where the money would come from until I saw today a used 85mm f1.4 AI-S show up locally for an unbelievably good price. I don't "need" it but have been told it's one of those lenses with a difference and is one of the "ten best" lenses Nikon ever made. Now the Z7ii is just going to have to wait. That being said, there's still nothing wrong with the glass I own and my 750/850 stable.

unless you really need 2 card slots, the Z6 is a better option and you can put that $400 savings tword a Z lens. The extra 2 FPS are only used in single point auto focus, and thats kinda useless. The other thing the Z6ll has is the ablility to use a real full function Grip, if thats important to you then get the Z6ll. For most people the Z6 is perfect. I have done Photography for over 20 years and never ran into a situation where the 2nd card slot came in useful (then again a memory card could die at any time).

If you have a Z6, no sense in upgrading to a Z6ii, just get a good z lens..but Z6 to Z7ii is a totally different and big upgrade in IQ specially at iso 64..

I was just wondering, as a landscape guy did you consider a Z7 for the higher resolution ?

Released on October 2020, now it's considered an antique compared to the new Nikon wunderkind Z9! This is why I've given up on photography. It's no longer about the love of photography, but keeping up with the latest and 'greatest' gear.

The Z5 has IBIS, I guess you meant fps in the comparison?

The Mark II has much better low light AF response. Also, you should wait for the next firmware update to the Z6/7II - it will make it much better.

They say that plenty of processor power is critical in mirorrless cameras. You will get the best out of it. No Doubt about that.

In my personal case, the choice to make is between Z5 and Z7ii. I never seen a reason to pick up Z6 I or II over Z5. Z6 does not exist for me. I ended up having Z5 and I'm now waiting for Z9 technology to move down to lower grade models.

I switch from the D780 to the Z6II 2 days not a great improvement. The autofocus on the D780 is a little bit better (viewfinder).

Hello Frederik! First of all, Congratulations! 🎊🍾🎉👍😃

I think it is Human Nature to ‘second guess’ ourselves after making these types of purchases?
Buyers Remorse, whatever label you might use, but I think you did alright my friend. My feeling is if one can only afford the Z6, that’s alright, but if one can spend extra and get the Z6ii, then go for it! I DO NOT think you wasted your money.

Here are a few positive points in passing: (1) Dual cards, which many clamor about in online comments, and which can be useful; (2) Dual Processors, increasing AF sensitivity, FPS, better ISO and better photo processing; (3) ability to use the better battery grip design. And I believe Nikon will at some point, if not already, stop offering updates on the first Gen cameras, making your purchase of the Z6ii more ‘future proof!?’

I can’t quite get my thoughts down like I would like, as I’m still getting over this dang Covid. I hear things are not that great in Europe and the UK? Please take care and be safe.

I am sorry for your having to pay higher prices. Yes, USA citizens have it too good, and they don’t seem to appreciate what they do have. I’m a US Military Veteran, and all this uproar and civil unrest and Political upheaval makes me sick, and sad, but I digress...

Enjoy your new camera my friend. Happy Shooting! Best ! 👍👍👍✌🏻😁📷
