Why does it seem like some people always come out on top?
They dominate in a lot of different areas and everything just seems to go their way.
And why are certain individuals unable to catch a break and always get the short end of the stick?

Does it just boil down to luck and genetics? Maybe.
However, I believe there are additional factors at play here.

Let’s explore some of them to gain a better and more nuanced understanding of why some people just keep succeeding and why others keep failing.
And more importantly, I’ll show you the way to use all of that information to your advantage.

Having supportive parents should be on this list(not just financially) but just them being around and giving good life advice is huge. At my school, I could always tell which kids had good parents just by how they strived for good grades and they always had some extracurriculars scheduled and help with homework. If you had that, give your parents a big hug because a lot of us didn’t.

Thanks for this, I'm going through a horrible period of slacking off.
It has lasted 27 years so far.

I read the outliers book long ago and it really opened my eyes about how the small differences can snowballing into massive differences.

It must suck to be a kid born into december, having poor background and a depressed view of life ( well, if they are born into december, having poor background, they are often feeling inferior comparing themselves with other kid who are stronger, smarter, ... richer in their class which lead to further plummeting their confidence, make them tend to have a depressed view of life. You can't really not compare when you go to school and fit in a class with all the kid the same age as you ).

So, a depressed view of life can just be a product of being born late in the year and having a poor or complicated background...

Well, that is something outside of what we can control so we should just try to make the small changes, take the small victories and slowly rising our confidence.

Interesting. It's good to acknowledge that life isn't fair. But there are still usually things we can do to improve our situation. Even if it's just our perspective.

I certainly was able to overcome. I was born in October and started Kindergarten at age 4 and 1st grade at age 5. I was an average HS student, better than average college student. I was very successful in my career in 30 to 55. Then the climate began to definitely go against me. Age discrimination is real! Maybe it wasn’t really my age, it was that they could hire brand new grad nurses at a steep discount salary! I was no longer valued for having 20 years of experience! Hospitals became all about the money. RNs like me left the profession and started different careers.

I was born in 14 th December and during my whole school I was the best or the second best soccer player in my class. I wasn't the strongest one, even really thin although I was really quick 😅

Also, I was always in the top 10 when it comes to grades.

I also read that it could be a factor be younger in months but I t didn't apply in my case.

I played a lot of soccer with my friends of different ages outside from the school and also, I used to study a lot (I just have average intelligence but hardworking).

So dont feel aad or unmotivated if you were born in the last months of the year.

Hardwork and practice always pay off ❤

"That which you don't know, controls you." - some awesome historical person

I was born in FEB 94 but studied with 93 kids, I was bad at studies in KG and teachers wouldn't help me but helped other kids
Later my genetic intelligence kicked in

I loved basketball but was too short for it, the school coach took other tall kids to inter school game and I didn't even knew it, by the time of high school my genetics again kicked in, I got tall, and he saw me play for the first time in near last days of school and his mouth was open wide when he saw me intercepting passes.

I kept getting full marks in Maths and very high marks in sciences but my teacher's aversion to my bad handwriting and my own lack of ambition never let me take studies seriously, never studying at home etc.

never played basketball beyond the local backyard.

After watching this video I felt like I should have the winner's mindset all the time, keep attacking from all angels FTW. Others are not innately more well adjusted/consistent, I just need to break old long habits.

your video 'mini habits' made me do positive things for the first time in life, and this video gave me such an absolute confidence.

Thank you, thank you, fellow traveler.

I started school a year early, was always much younger than my peers and I disagree. Was one of the top students in primary

When I was a child there were 4 admissions terms per year, starting in September after the 6 weeks holiday. So the youngest in class were this born in the summer before the start of September.

By the time my eldest went to school in the early 80s, it was changed to only two admissions per year. September and January.

Then by the time my younger sons started it was reduced even more to only one block of admissions a year from September.

Abandoning 3 admission terms per year made a huge negative impact on a lot of children who have since been wrongly deemed to have learning difficulties.

Lesson: Countries with birth month criteria for starting school instead of age criteria are unfortunate.

I was born in January, I was one of the youngest in my class and still was one of the best in sport 😂

I was born in August while my classmate was born in March....I graduated highschool with 80% while he got 72... But then he got admitted to a better college because of community reservation, i had some family issues that hampered by ability to do well....

I finally graduated engineering with around 70% marks & pandemic restrictions made hard to get help....So, I took up a temporary job in food delivery(as it was essential services) so I could bypass these restrictions to a certain degree and go to my professor's home to learn....

So, while the study may be a determining factor for sport, there are more variables at play for academics.... (Luck, how we deal with setbacks, being able to afford good mentors, finding our weak spots and improving 1% everyday etc ..)

I’d imagine that with the amount of time people spend on the phone doing useless things; one can make up for those 11 months in . . .

Just to put things into even more perspective, getting a girls number while she has a boyfriend, is not a win either.
