I live right next to Castaic Lake. It is at 91%. It rose by 2 feet yesterday. Thats huge. The aqueduct flows straight through the and lake system. So Castaic Lake is being released into Castaic Lagoon, which is being released into Castaic Creek which is going to the Santa Clara river. Santa Clara river is flowing and it flows all the way out along the 126 so if the farmers out there are looking to capture water it’s coming they have it.

I’ve lived in CA all my life. Never knew this stuff. Fascinating. What they DON’t teach us in school. 👈‼️ Thank you so much for doing this ‼️‼️❤️

Thanks for this very instructive and relevant presentation. Happy Easter

Interesting how California is rediscovering "polders"...

Thanks a lot.
You are better than my Berkeley teachers where (1975) to explain the management of water in a semi arid area(or I am a better student today ;-) . The management of the groundwater reservoirs is an important mean of putting water in the bank for other years to use.

Juan you are just amazing at explaining how the whole system works. Glad to hear you were back in the cockpit and doing your thing. I'm sure everyone in your area are glad you're back and keeping them informed.😊

Use all that surplus hydro power duringwestb high runoff and pump that water over the Tehachapis to the Colorado River, imperial Valley Salton Sea Area. Have you read Mark Arax’s great book “The Dreampt Land”? IMO that book and “The Cadillac Dessert” are a must read for anyone in California remotely interested in water resources and agriculture here in the West.

Thanks, I was interested in the plans to deal with this "windfall" of water after so much draught. Great Info well delivered.

One concern regarding the floodwaters refilling part of the old Tulare Lake bed is the clay soil there does not drain well. Very little will replenish the aquifer. Most of the floodwater in the lake bed will be standing water evaporating over several years. Historically, generations ago when the massive shallow lake was filled with fish and birds, mosquitoes spreading malaria were a big public health problem. Contemporary mosquitoes carry a variety of public health threats in addition to malaria, so not only will there need to be major mosquito abatement efforts as the floodwaters recede statewide, but the flooded portion of the old lake will be a mosquito haven for several years until the water evaporates.

My oldest brother lives in Redding. Lake Shasta is close to 2019 levels. Less than 22' from full pool! That's amazing. However he gets his drinking water from Trinity lake is around 125' from full pool. With the snow pack it could get full.

Juan, your videos are eye candy, amazing, no nonsense, great information! The fact that you live in Grass Valley is even better, because I live in Grass Valley too. It would be very cool to see your plane fly by. Love your channel!

Thank you
This was so informative
I live in Southern Oregon. The last two years there has been no snow on Mt. Shasta come late summer, the last glacier melted. The mountain looks so different with no snow.

Thanks for a great explanation of the California water system. Glad this system will be able to bank some of the excess water for future use.

Brilliant video Juan! I have been following this, as a former Californian, back here in South Carolina. This video has been the best explanation of all the dynamics involved in this unique rain season. Thank you so much for your time and effort.

I just read about Mammoth. 700inches measured. Then I read that there's enough snow in CA to fill up Lake Mead after melting. I wish you good luck. Have a boat nearby, or a seaplane! :) Cheers from western Nevada.

In 2017, I was worried about the people near Lake Oroville and was so relieved when I learned of your work.
In 2005, my community was eliminated by hurricane Katrina and had longed for information like you offer. Nothing was available. It was way back then.
Since the 2017 problem at the lake, I watched every moment of the Mighty Luscombe as it monitored all the repairs.
During the drought, you kept us informed of all the happenings, in a way that was complete, yet easy to digest.
The work you do is so important, not just to the local area, but you Juan are vital in knitting a community Together, TOGETHER, when so many others work to separate a community into politically digestible bits.
You seem to be a good guy, a very bright guy, who automatically acts to get us all working together.
Thank You Sir, for all the wonderful work you do, and the fine example you set !!
I am a retired Psychiatrist and watching your videos since 2017 helped me greatly. You reminded me of how we Should act.

Very good report. A good source for western water projects for the last 100 years is a book called Cadillac desert by Marc Reisner written in the 80s. Great read.
