T-34-85 VS M1A1 Abrams #shorts

This simulation shows the impact of a 85mm BR-365K APHE-T being fired from a Soviet T-34-85 tank at a range of 0.23KM, targeting the turret side of a US M1A1HA Abrams tank.

As we can see the NERA plates managed to absorb the kinetic energy of the 85mm projectile, losing its velocity at nearly half of the distance. Taking into account the high explosive filler of the projectile, the resultant shock wave inside the turret side would cause damage to certain components.

The only plausible way a T-34-85 could destroy an Abrams would be to achieve flanking fire at a 90 degree angle at a range of 500 meters or less.

Realistically, it would never happen. The Abrams would spot the T-34 at 3000 meters and fire a shot with 100% first round hit and blow its turret off.

These people forget that this is a simulation, and not a very accurate one.

For one, The M1 Abrams tank's composite armor is made of steel and ceramic, and is based on the British Chobham armor. British Chobham armor, consists of ceramic blocks, metal plates, and open space. The M1 is mainly made of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA) steel plates.

The M1 Abrams' composite armor system is designed to protect the tank from explosives and projectiles. designed to be lighter, stronger, and less bulky than traditional armor.

The armor thickness of an Abrams ranges from 25-700mm. But, thanks to the angles and the composite design, the frontal armor is equivalent to 1, 000mm. The side armor is 250mm, but with the composite design, the equivalent is 450mm. While the top is just 25mm, and 31mm at the rear.

Secondly, A standard M1 Abrams sabot round, typically the M829 series, can penetrate around 650-750 millimeters. The armor thickness on a T-34-85 ranges from 20–90 mm.

Additionally, The T-34-85's 85 mm gun cab penetrate 125 mm of armor.

In conclusion, the only chance the T-34-85 has at killing an Abrams is by attacking the rear. But givin the mobility of the Abrams, thats basically impossible.
