I’m Garrett. I’m 19 years old, and for the last year and a half, I’ve been learning to solo sail the Hawaiian Islands and preparing my boat, a Nor’sea 27 to travel the world. After months at the dock getting ready to leave Hawaii I finally set sail for French Polynesia. Now I’m entering the doldrums at 4 degrees north after an 11-day and 1,100 nautical mile mostly upwind bash from Hawaii. Thanks for watching, hopefully, you weren’t as bored as I was at the end of this video.

My mom didn’t want me driving alone from CA to NC at age 24, you’re sailing the ocean at 19! Props to you and being brave

Still cannot believe you are just 19.
I feel only admiration for you and the people who raised you to be of such strong character and determination.

This scares the shit outta me, how much you’re submitting your life to the whims of nature, but a fascinating adventure. Thanks for sharing.

16:20 The tradition of drinking alcohol when crossing the equator on a sailboat is part of a maritime initiation ceremony known as the "Crossing the Line" ceremony or the "Neptune Ceremony." This ceremony is often held to mark a sailor's first time crossing the equator, which is a significant milestone in maritime navigation.

The ceremony is rooted in maritime folklore and has been a part of naval and maritime cultures for centuries. It is typically a lighthearted and theatrical event that involves experienced sailors (often dressed up as King Neptune and his court) "initiating" the sailors who are crossing the equator for the first time.

First time I ever watched someone sail an adventure like this. It just randomly popped up. At 19 I was chasing women, binge sports watching, and working at the mall. Props to you for taking on such an adventure, and taking us along.

I don't think we should call him "young man" anymore. Compared to what I see out there at 19, he's an old man. Thanks Garret, I was absorbed in your video's and can't wait till you land in Tahiti. These video's took me way back to my solo journeys at 19 as well off the coast of SoCal from Newport to Dana Point or Santa Catalina. Hats off to our salty ole Dad's who raised us to be tough and "be in the world, not on it" (John Muir)

I cannot believe at 19 years old you managed to undertake such a tumultuous endeavor. This is inspirational

Jumping into the abyss in the middle of the ocean was the most frightening part of these videos haha

Yay! So glad to see you post again! I KNOW I’m a nervous Nellie, but I got a weird feeling about that interaction with that one captain insisting on your coordinates. I’m glad you figured it out because the first thing I thought of was pirates looking for potential victims. Sending you best wishes for your continued safe travels!!

Exactly the kind of sailing content I'm looking for. None of the bs that is so common now. Looking forward to future videos.

You have such an amazing, 'no fuss' attitude which is especially inspiring as a worry wart myself! Well done and safe travels

Imagine tens or hundreds of years from now people like this guy traveling through space alone in spaceships making videos about their routines. I know this will take a long time to happen, but when it does it will be amazing
