This 1947 recording by Nat King Cole previews the wonderful balladeer that he was to become in the early 1950s. Though recorded with his trio, it is easy to imagine this with a lush string accompaniment. This song, “I'll String Along with You “ written by Harry Warren & Al Dubin originally appeared in the 1934 film Twenty Million Sweethearts. This recording can be found on the box set, Cool Cole on the Proper Records label.

Nat King Cole was the absolute best. I'm glad people/you are listening to him.

You continually amaze me, catman, in your selections! This particular recording of Nat King Cole's is one of my all-time favorites. I had it on a 78 when I was a kid (inherited from my parents) that was part of a 3-disc album of the "King Cole Trio - Volume 3" on Capitol. As I recall, the songs on the other 5 sides were "Makin' Whoopee, " "Too Marvelous for Words, " "Honeysuckle Rose" (instrumental), "Rhumba Azul" (another instrumental of which I was quite fond), and "This Is My Night to Dream." Memories galore! Wishing you a very happy 2023! Best, Paul
