I liked City Burials quite a lot, but gotta say that this one is definitely a step up. Like you said, the songwriting is impeccable, and Jonas vocals sound better than ever!....Definitely in my top 5 Katatonia releases, and could move higher once I've had more time with it.

Ah dude. I was going to message you to see what your thoughts were on this. I got it on Friday and it's been on constant re-play. Absolutely stunning, deliciously melancholic and equally hooky. I liked City Burials, but that lost it's way half way through. This is peerless from start to finish. Nice review as always buddy. Take care. S.

I wasn't a huge fan of City Burials, but what a return to form in A Sky Void of Stars. It reminds me a lot of The Fall of Hearts and Dead End Kings. No Beacon to Illuminate Our Fall is one of the best closers on an album I've heard as well. If you haven't heard it, I recommend Riverside's new album ID.Entity as a companion piece to Katatonia and I cannot shout out Tribunal's debut album: The Weight of Remembrance. A truly emotive and expansive doom metal release.

Oh boy, I just checked out the new Katatonia earlier today. And I really like it! Which was a bit surprising having heard the single releases that I consider the weaker moments of the album. Colossal Shade, Opaline, Drab Moon and Author are such cool songs. This one will make it to a constant rotation phase for me, I guess. :) Cool review as always!
