Honestly, the damages that the mentality & consciousness of sin do are more that sin itself. As christians, we cant overcome sin, except we start walking in the consciousness of liberty & freedom over sin. The bible says walk in the Spirit & you wont fulfil fleshy desires: this simply means think more about God's love & His things than sin; be more conscious of His presence than sin. Your true identity is not what the flesh defines you, it's who you are in the spirit, where you are joined with God as one.
