SpaceX Starship Contracts Secured!, JWST Launch, CRS-24 & Turksat 5B

The lead up to the weekend certainly hasn’t slowed down the space industry with a mountain of stuff to cover today. SpaceX hosted some special visitors at Starbase recently and they were particularly interested in a specific prototype onsite. Plenty happening at the build site as well as Raptor 2 development news from Texas. The James Webb Space Telescope is scheduled to take flight right before this video goes live. And SpaceX launched Turksat 5B earlier this week along with CRS-24, at the same time as setting 2 new company records in the process.

As this video goes live (at least for Patrons) we are all here waiting JWST countdown to launch. This is quite incredible. Certainly not the most relaxing Christmas evening I've ever had.
Update: I won't spoil it for you. Go watch the replay! :)

I appreciate you releasing this at the exact same time as the telescope launch. I assume we where all there. Glad it went so well.

JWST has finally made it to space 30 yrs after getting the go ahead, congrats to those involved and built this next generation space telescope.

Just watched the JWST have a picture-PERFECT launch, all the way up to JWST separation from the Ariane 5! As I type this, it's already deployed the solar panels and is operating on its own power, too.

Who else is here right after watching James Webb launch?! Great video Marcus, I'm sure we'll have all kinds of information about the telescope on next weeks episode.

I just have to shake my head. SpaceX has _landed safely_ 100 Falcon 9 boosters. This is more _landings_ than most other current rockets have had _flights._ The few rockets that have had more flights have all been in use for decades as well, and most of those are now retired. (Gonna take a long time to catch up with Soyuz which has had 1900+ flights in 64-odd years.)

Hope we get a lot of coverage for the JWST- It feels like it's been the most anticipated mission for my entire life and it's incredible to finally see it launched!

The JWST is such an ambitious project... congrats to all involved and good luck on continued mission success! My guess is that once the first data & images start coming in, all of the delays will be long forgotten!

Another excellent presentation with lots of vivid and exciting animations and videos. The coverage of the booster of the OLM clearly showed a worrisome lack of adequate protection for the GSE tank farm and lots of infrastructure, piping, isolated tall tanks shockingly close to the OLM. The earth berm appears to be about ten meters high, less than half the height of the GSE tanks and about as high as the OLM. As the booster lifts off those numerous Raptor engines are going to hit that concrete surface under the OLM with twice the blast of the Saturn V and fill that entire area with twice the exhaust of the Saturn V flying out radially, exerting quite a bit of lateral force on everything in its path, including those LOX and liquid methane tanks. Fingers crossed.

James Webb has launched successfully!!! Onward to L2! Thanks Marcus, your videos every Saturday give me hope and put a smile on my face in these otherwise dark times. Bring on 2022 and hopefully lots of orbital Starship flights! Merry Christmas everyone!

For those curious the James Webb is Refuellable found this on the specs; "In the intended service life no repair and maintenance missions are planned; However, there is a mechanism that would allow for a subsequent supplementation of the fuel supplies by a robot mission."
