Cycling Canada Ep 10 - Newfoundland

Newfoundland! The tenth and final province of my bicycle journey across Canada. Affectionately known as "the rock", this island is home to incredible wildlife, stupendous landscapes, hospitable people, and dramatic weather. In this episode, I set out to complete my mission of cycling all the way across Canada, and I'm met with many incredible experiences along the way.

In the summer of 2022, I cycled 15,000 km across Canada in 175 days from May 21st to November 11th, Departing Victoria, BC, and arriving Cape Spear, NFLD. This is the story of the tenth province of that journey. The Newfoundland journey took place from October 30th to November 11th.

Wow, Nathan, thank you! Everything was incredible! The cinematography, the narration, the scenery, the long, slow shots of the wildlife. Everything I love in bike touring videos. My dear departed mother grew up in Saint John, NB, and cycling the Maritimes has been a dream of mine for years. I have loved following this journey across this beautiful country and enjoyed living vicariously through you. I have driven across a number of times and ridden my bike on many portions of it and I know a little about how momentous of an accomplishment this is. What I liked most is you didn’t just point your wheels eastward and go (a remarkable trip in itself), but took a circuitous route to enhance the experience. I admire how you can spend long days on the bike and can ride into the night. On my cycling trips, I usually want to stop mid afternoon and setup camp. But your night riding scenes are cool - I’ll have to try that. I also admire your film making skills, especially the patience to set up your camera, ride by and return to pick everything up whether it involved riding up and down a hill or into the teeth of the weather. I have always been a still photo guy but your videos (and others) led me to pick up a Black Friday GoPro deal with the hope of teaching an old dog new tricks. I see from instagram that you went to Portugal and Spain after Canada. I enjoyed a 12 day bike tour across S. Spain pre-Covid - another great place to ride a bike! Safe travels wherever you are now and keep the rubber side down!
