Toledo is the only city in Europe that preserves its medieval cobblestones intact in some streets, being able to walk on stones that have been there for more than 1, 000 years.
It's one of the few cities in the world that has its entire historic center declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. And it also has a good and excellently preserved walls, and the cathedral is one of the largest and most beautiful in Europe.
Toledo is also known as "The Imperial City", since it was the capital where King Carlos I resided (Holy Roman Emperor Karl V for Germans), and was the Capital of the Spanish empire till King Felipe II moved it to Madrid in 1568.
