That’s a hidden benefit of raising your kids in the same town you grew up in! You know all the local “spots.” Lol.

For those confused, I'm pretty certain this is about smoking and hookup spots. Not a parent though, so I'm open to hearing other perspectives

One thing my mother struggled to understand when I was growing up is that I’m not her 😂, and that just because she used to run wild doesn’t mean I’m doing so

My mum had those refresh chats down to a fine art in front of my little siblings. "Don't do anything I have." Ok, so no drugs, alcohol or becoming a teen parent, gotcha.

Even though I'm not a little kid anymore my dad still give me the stranger danger run down saying there is no dogs and candy in a person's car and it just makes me happy

I remember one time I mentioned how big the back seat in my boyfriend's(now husband) car was. My mom flipped around and yelled how do you know how big the back seat is. I was truly confused about her anger. I said "Because I take my dog to his house. Where eles could a 60 pound dog sit?" It wasn't until 2 nights later I realized why she was angry. We did do that though. I was just confused why she thought I wouldn't ever look at the backseat if we weren't.

My dad let me know i could do anything, including any drugs and alcohol, even under our roof and I should never be afraid to reach out if I need help, whether it was in the middle of the day or 3am. He also let me know of safe spots to go.

He didn't take into account I was a boringly safe teenager but that advice meant the world to me.

(Edit: assumptions are being made about my dad and my life in the replies, I assure you, MY dad, COULD beat up YOUR dad. I summon my 40+ year old bouncer father onto the playing field like he's Exodia and we can battle it out lmao. )

I was a pretty (and still am) a sensible person. It would always bug the hell out of me when my parent would give me one of those chats.
BUT I think the reason I hated it is that she didn't trust me. She would me super abrasive and kinda aggressive when telling me things like this.
Refresher chats are find and SUPER helpful.
But please don't forget that your kids do know what they're doing. Have some trust in them....

What sucked being homeschooled is that whenever I found a cool place or "spot", I'd tell my mom about it, and she'd always responded with what that spot is known for, and it always ruined the vibe

As a teen, this took me just a moment to understand😅
I think my parents are very grateful that I have absolutely zero interest in doing any of that stuff.

When I first started smoking weed, I had no idea other people could smell it on you, or that it made your eyes look crazy red. I was 13 and my mom totally freaked out, and called my dad to come over & give me “the talk”… that was the day I found out my dad is a HUGE stoner & why he grew plants in the closet at his house. 😂😂He told me it was cool as long as I’m not putting anything up my nose, or eating funny shaped pills. I had no idea what he meant at the time… being a parent now I get how my mom felt.

As the 100% non partier growing up, I’m glad the comments clarified things 😂 I thought there was some favorite spot to stand in the house and I was thoroughly confused 😂
