This week on "Indiana Newsdesk," a judge strikes down Indiana's ban on same-sex marriage, and people across the state rush to get married.

We introduce you to couples who've been together for decades and are celebrating a moment they thought would never happen.

Meanwhile the attorney general's office is pushing for a stay on the judge's decision. What could happen to the hundreds of couples married this week? We talk to a legal expert about the possible outcomes.

Two guests today: Greg Wallace, Director of Hope and New Life Ministries and Deborah Widiss, Associate Professor with the IU Maurer School of Law.

Velveteen Rabbit real...that's what having your marriage recognized after far too long feels like.  I look forward to it being "just a marriage" as the judge wrote in his opinion.  It is not "premature".  It is right and a recognition that, as Dr. King said, "Justice delayed is justice denied."  Consider how cruel denial of marriage equality is.  Consider how joyful civil marriage equality is.  I remember the sense of rushing to get married in fear it would be reversed when we dashed to Toronto to marry in 2003.  It made all the difference.  We were so surprised at the impact being lawfully married -- even if it wasn't yet recognized in our own country -- made on our relationship of what was then over two decades.  We thought it would be perfunctory, having been together so long, so deeply in love.  We were wrong.  Marriage matters.  It added emotional security and depth that came as such a surprise.  It is so very, very important, not only for the legal rights, responsibilities, and benefits, but for our very relationship itself.  I know we're not alone in this experience, having spoken to a number of long-term same-sex couples who finally were able to civilly marry.  I look forward to the day when we're not having a hopscotch marriage -- when we can go anywhere in our nation and not fear that our marriage won't be recognized.  My friends with children would, for instance, like to be able to go to Walt Disney World without fearing that their children's relationship to a non-birth-parent would be in jeopardy if a tragedy befell the birth parent while there.  Marriage matters.  Marriage equality matters to real couples, real children.  Uphold this decision and give us the "50-state solution", please!

Let those same sex marriages end in divorce and see them scream again. Just a very small group of people who want to be RECOGNIZED.
