In this series of webinars, Phil Cook of Simply Rhino shows how initial 2D sketch designs can be taken into Rhino and developed into 3D surface and solid models for further design development.

Using the example of a telephone handset, Phil looks at quick and efficient ways of creating 2D and 3D curves from which the surfaces can be generated, before moving on to adjusting the proportions of the design.

A number of different surface creation tools are examined along with filleting and blending tools.

In the first in this series of 3 webinars we specifically look at setting out 2D and 3D curves.

• Importing reference sketches
• Creating 2D curves
• Setting out 3D geometry
• Orient Tools

Hi, Laura
I used the ‘Small Objects Millimetres’ template. The grid size and properties can be changed in ‘File>Settings’ – the grid is merely a visual reference for the CPlane and changing the size doesn’t affect accuracy, model scale etc. If, when you create the drawing in Illustrator, you have the units set in (for example) millimetres and you then bring artwork into a Rhino document in which the units are also millimetres then your artwork size will remain as existing if you select ‘Custom Scaling – 1mm in PDF = 1 Rhino Unit’. Hope this helps. Phil.

Hello! Could you please tell me wich template are you using and which are the settings of the grid? I did the same vector in Ai but when I import the file it's bigger than the one you did and it doesn't even fit! Thank a lot and sorry for al the questions but I'm inlove with Rhino for Mac and I really want to learn :D
