First responders play a crucial role in protecting communities from the devastating effects of fire and other emergencies. However, our occupational duties expose us to a wide range of hazardous substances, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS compounds are synthetic chemicals known for their water- and grease-resistant properties, making them prevalent in firefighting foams, protective gear, and equipment.
