The First Opium War was sadly not as eventful so I made it every month and added the second war. Also in case you missed it I had a video earlier this week over the Russo-Georgian War. Enjoy!

This war was like:'
HEY! EAT MY DRUGS!
I WON'T!
EAT THEM!
OK OK! "EATS"
DO YOU FEEL BETTER NOW?
YES, CAPTEN BRITEINIA, !

You could have shown the rebellions inside the Qing Empire, since the war was much more complex than coastal battles and opium. The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, as the greatest example, ruled over most of southeast China at the time the Second Opium War started. The big red China gives the idea that the Qing were that massive great empire by the time of the second opium war, when in reality the excess of internal war, foreign intromission and ecological problems (such as the flooding of an area roughfully the size of England) exhausted the Chinese state and population. You've shown some of these rebellions in your History of East Asia video, it would be good to see this complexity in other, more specific, as well. Great video nevertheless and please keep the good work.

China submitted in the first Opium War because British blocked the Grand Canal which was vital for food supply to the Chinese capital. But Chinese still could not take Birtish as equal as they were since they had ruled the known world for thousands of years. The British Empire, taken as a barbarian state, had no right to establish an embassy in China until China was defeated in the second Opium War when Chinese capital Peking was occupied at the time. Opium Wars have been wrriten as turning points for China in all Chinese history textbooks, and they have long been source of humiliation for most Chinese with nationalist sentiment.

This is why Hong Kong was part of Britain from the 1840’s to 1997.

for the most part you could've made the map smaller. Would've been much easier to see detail that way

The music in this really sets an eerie atmosphere of the war. The picture of a massive country being physically and psychologically invaded could only be accompanied by the foggy undertones of this music.

What was even crazier is that during the second opium war was the Taiping rebellion in southeast China which was 100 times worse than the opium wars combined

*This war in a nutshell*

China - "Stop the opium trade!"
Britain - "Nope"
China - "Then there shall be war!"
Britain - "France! hold my beer" *beats China aggresively*
France - *stares scared*
Britain - "Now I will trade my totally legal products without further interruptions. And you shall give Russia clay"
China - "But... Why? bah! fine."
Russia - "dibs!"
China - "Arseholes!"
France - "I'm just here for the drinks...."

Tigerstar, I saw that Suomi's vid about Russian Civil war is full of mistakes. Will you make a new and accurate vid about Russian Civil war of 1917-1923?
