JERRY MASUCCI Mientras que yo diseñaba las caratulas de Fania, nunca se me ocurrió escribir los textos para el reverso. Sin embargo, recientemente estaba en el Bronx Music Palace donde escuchaba a Willie Colon. Fui tan impresionado con esta exhibición que corri a Jerry Masucci de Fania y le pedí permiso para escribir el reverso del album de Willie.
Willie y todos los muchachos son Jovenes talentosos y hacen una organización dinámica. Sin embargo ni han llegado al colmo de su capacidad. ¿Podran mejorarse Todavia? ¿Quien sabe? En pocos años este album puede llegar á ser la joya de aficionado.
Cuando oí a Willie en el Bronx Music Palace, fue cuando tocaba la melodia, "EL HUSTLER" el título de este album, y tuve que sentarme con las otras personas escuchando cerca a la plataforma. Lo que nos tenía en un estado hipnótico fué una exhibición magnifica de un talento maduro. Cuando Nick Marrero tocó los timbales y hizó un solo, nos llevo al delirio en verlo y escucharlo. Mark Dimonde entro con el piano y la impresión fué que hablaba con las teclas. El musico del bajo siguio empujando el ritmo hasta que el publico se estremeció. Willie entro con su trombone y todos se levantaron cuando harmonizó todos los instrumentos en un gran explosión de sonido. Todo el mundo se enloqueció hasta el colmo y después vino el aplauso estrepitoso en apreciacion de esta orquesta de jovenes fantasticos.
Sumando todo, puedo decir honradamente que este album es un tiro. Toque Ud. este LP y estoy seguro que Ud. estará convencido.

FANIA RECORDS • 850 7th AVE. N.Y.C. While designing albums for Fania Records it never occured to me to write a backliner, it just wasn't my bag. Recently however, I happened to be at the Bronx Music Palace and I heard Willie Colon.
So impressed was I by this performance that I immediately ran to Jerry Masucci at Fania and asked if I could write the liner notes for Willie's Album.
Willie and all the boys are an extremely young, talented and dynamic organization and the whole goof is that they haven't even reached their full potential yet. How much better can anyone get?
Who knows, in a few years this album may become a collectors item.
When I heard Willie at the Bronx Music Palace he was playing the title tune of this album "THE HUSTLER" and I just had to sit down and join the rest of the people sitting and standing around the bandstand listening. What had us all in a trance was a magnificent display of seasoned talent at its best. At one point Nick Marrero the timbales player went into a solo that was just too much to watch and listen to.
Mark Dimonde on the piano followed and he was talking to them keys.
The bass player all the while was pushing and as the whole place was going wild, Willie got on the trombone and lifted everyone off their feet as he blended everything together into one massive building sound. Everyone was wild up to the last climax, after which the applause came thundering as appreciation to this great youthful band.
Wrappping it all up I can honestly say that this album is a gas.
