The Great Loop, Uh-Oh - Bridge Closed!! Exploring Marineland, Florida - Episode 20
Dates: July 25 - August 1, 2018

After a wonderful stay in New Smyrna Beach, we set our eyes towards our longest cruising day yet of 44.1 nm to Marineland, FL. We set a cruising speed to hopefully make it in before afternoon storms popped up - but encountered a delay with a closed bridge.

A quick scramble to get our arch down, we slide under with not much to spare and then enjoy a week in this historic Florida coastal 'town'.

Featuring time lapse and drone footage.

Great Loop Log (8/1/2018)

Distance: 636.5 nm
Stops: 42

Anchored Nights: 31

Great to see you at Marine Land. We visit this area on a regular bases as my mom's condo is just down the road from where you where docked. Loved the drone shot from above. Thanks again for the video!😊

Didn't even know Marineland existed! How neat! We've been fulltime (Rving) in Florida for 3 years now. Thanks for the great info! As a small town girl in South Dakota you two were our inspiration back in 2015. Forever forward...glad you are still making informational videos. Happy sails😁.

Just watching you go under that bridge I was holding my breath! I’m like omg that’s so close. If the water level was any higher you wouldn’t have made it. Like high tide

Great video as always, would have been interesting to see the lowering and raising procedure of the arch and all that it entails, maybe next time for us visual stimulated types! Safe cruising to you both.

Marineland looks like a great trade-off between urban and rural. Nice to de-stress for a few days, but not completely isolated.

did you ever notice an alligator or crocodile following you when you were paddle boarding?

Nice sailing under the bridge Captain. Sweet that you were able to lower your profile to squeeze under the bridge. Happy sailing.

Dolphins using your wake, how cool is that?
Oy, Florida Rain Storms. My husband would talk about driving down the highway, when he'd run into a wall of water you couldn't see through. I've driven through one like yours, that was crazy.

Hi Guys, It must have been a really trip up the ICW if you let two "Mike Boats" or Army LCMs pass you by. They are probably the slowest water born craft this 20+ Navy retiree is familiar with...but, at the same time you guys were in no hurry, especially on such a nice day, at least at that point. Keep up the great videos...and I hope you have plenty of..."Fair Winds and Following Seas".

Good job with the bridge! I've had a bridge master talk me through a bridge with an official 29 foot clearance with my 30 foot mast on my small sailboat. Stuck to the middle and just cleared it, so I know how you felt. Thanks for the marina info. Should be going through there in a couple months.
